A teenager has sadly died after a serious crash on a major Essex road. Emergency services were called to a crash involving two cars on London Road, close to the Stonehouse Corner roundabout in Purfleet at about 10.15pm last night (April 24).

Sadly, despite the best efforts of those at the scene, a 17-year-old has died. His family has been informed and is being supported by Essex Police officers while they carry out an investigation.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man from Rainham man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, who remains in custody. The road was closed for several hours overnight and has now reopened.

Now Essex Police are appealing for any drivers in the area at the time of the collision to get in touch, in particular with dashcam footage, to support our enquiries. You can let them know by submitting a report on their website or by using their online Live Chat service which is available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Alternatively, you can call on 101.

The East of England Ambulance Service also attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.15pm yesterday (Thursday April 24) to a road traffic collision on London Road near West Thurrock. Three ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle, a rapid response vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. Sadly, a 17-year-old died at the scene. Another male was transported by road to the Royal London Hospital with serious injuries, while another two patients were transported by road to Basildon University Hospital.”
