Lawrence Butler hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to help the Athletics to a win Wednesday over the Rangers.

Butler put the game away for the A’s with a salami off Shawn Armstrong that turned a 3-1 game into a 7-1 rout. It’s the fifth homer of 2025 for Butler, and his RBI total bumps up from seven to 11 with the bases-clearing bomb. He ends the month with a slash of .258/.324/.432, and those numbers should keep climbing.

Brent Rooker hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning to help the Athletics to a 7-1 win over the Rangers on Wednesday.

With the score tied at 1-1, Rooker came to the plat against Luke Jackson and clobbered a pitch from Jackson over the left-field fence to give the A’s a 3-1 lead. The Athletics would score four more on a grand slam by Lawrence Butler in the inning to turn a nailbiter into a blowout. Rooker has gone deep eight times in 30 games — putting him around a 40-homer pace — and remains one of the most underrated offensive weapons in the sport of baseball.

Luis Severino didn’t get a decision after allowing a run over five innings with four strikeouts against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Severino allowed eight hits, but outside of a single from Adolis Garcia that scored a run in the fourth, he was able to keep the Rangers off the board. It’s the third time in four outings that the 31-year-old has given up no more than one run, and his ERA has lowered to 3.30 from 4.74 in the process. Severino isn’t dominating, but he’s getting the job done; more so from a ‘real-life’ standard than a fantasy one. He faces the Mariners in Sacramento on Monday.
Carlos Duran

Athletics selected the contract of RHP Carlos Duran from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Duran came over from the Dodgers earlier this month in the Esteury Ruiz trade and will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game. The hard-throwing 23-year-old righty is capable of touching triple digits, but holds a lackluster 6.75 ERA across seven appearances this season at the Triple-A level.

Athletics optioned LHP Jacob Lopez to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lopez retreats to the minors after throwing 84 pitches over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a spot start against the division-rival Rangers. The 27-year-old southpaw figures to rejoin the Athletics’ pitching mix in a couple weeks.

Athletics transferred RHP José Leclerc to the 60-day injured list.

Leclerc won’t be eligible to rejoin the Athletics’ relief mix until late June. The 31-year-old righty hit the shelf back on April 23 with a lat strain. The procedural move frees up a spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster.

Shea Langeliers went 2-for-4 and walloped his sixth home run of the season on Tuesday as the Athletics were obliterated by the Rangers in Arlington.

Langeliers tagged right-hander Dane Dunning for a 390-foot (101.3 mph EV) two-run shot in the seventh inning, but all that did was put a Band Aid on a stab wound, trimming the A’s deficit to 10 runs at 12-2. He also singled in the ballgame and struck out twice. On the season, the 27-year-old backstop is slashing .232/.303/.455 with six homers and 14 RBI.

Jacob Lopez was hit hard in a losing effort against the Rangers on Tuesday, surrendering three runs on six hits over his 2 2/3 innings.

The 27-year-old left-hander also issued four walks on the night while striking out four. Lopez made it through the first inning unscathed but then gave up two runs in the second inning and another while being chased in the third. He got five whiffs on 84 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of just 17 percent. It would be surprising to see him stick around and make another start in J.T. Ginn’s spot in the rotation on Sunday against the Marlins in Miami.

ATH 2nd Baseman #20

Zach Gelof (hand) started a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Gelof is at DH on Tuesday night as he begins a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old second baseman is likely going to need at least a couple contests to get back up to speed before he’s ready to rejoin the Athletics’ lineup in early May. He’s been out since late March recovering from surgery to repair a hamate fracture in his right hand.
Jacob Wilson

ATH Shortstop #5

Jacob Wilson is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers.

Wilson has hit a bit of a rough patch of late, batting .222 (6-for-27) with one homer and four RBI over his last seven games. The 23-year-old’s contact-oriented approach is going to lead to stellar batting averages, but it also caps his realistic fantasy ceiling since he’d likely have to alter his mindset in order to hit for some additional over-the-fence power. It’ll be Max Schuemann drawing a start at shortstop on Tuesday night. He’ll have the privilege of trying to hit Rangers ace Jacob deGrom.
