Objective:
a) To perform compression test parallel to fibers on wooden cubes when load is applied.
Equipment & Material:
Universal Testing Machine, Vernier caliper, wood specimen in cube shape
Universal Testing Machine Compression Mode Parallel to Fiber
Procedure:
1) First turn on the computer & come into operation of software state.
2) Press “Power On” on the top of control console & start the button “Pump On” .at once.
3) Starting oil pump power set.
4) Measure All The Dimensions Of Cube. I.e. Length, Width, Height with the help of Vernier
caliper.
5) End of the specimen should be plane.
6) Install upper compression plate on the bottom of lower crosshead.
7) Adjust the wooden cube specimen Parallel to fiber of lower cross heading (UTM).
8) Lower compression plate and spherical seat are fixed with plug.
9) Centerline of specimen must coincide.
10) Fill some related specimen information of machine software.
11) Select the mode compression test in machine software.
12) Adjust the test load to zero & re-set the peak value.
13) Gradually keep on increasing the load.
14) Apply the load until the specimen fails.
15) After test stop the machine from software.
16) Prepare a graph for it.
17) Repeat the procedure for load applied in perpendicular case.
18) Draw the graph between, Load-deformation, Load- time, Load-Displacement, Stress-Strain, Time-
Stress, Time-Strain, Deformation-Time, and Displacement-Time.
Observations and Calculations:
𝐿 = length of test specimen
𝑏 = width of test specimen
ℎ = height of the test specimen
𝐹 = applied force
compressive stress = 𝜎
compressive strain = 𝜖
