Benigni, ‘Dreamlife’ top Euro film kudos

Bouchez, Regnier share best actress nod, again

LONDON — An exuberant Roberto Benigni took home acting and directing nods for “Life Is Beautiful” at the European Film Awards Friday in London.

The 11th edition of the awards marked the first time they were held outside Berlin.

The European actress nod was shared by French thesps Elocie Bouchez and Natacha Regnier for “The Dreamlife of Angels,” an award they also shared at the Cannes Intl. Film Festival.

Peter Howitt took screenwriting honors for “Sliding Doors.”

Cinematography award went to Adrian Biddle for Neil Jordan’s “The Butcher Boy” from Ireland.

The award for European achievement in world cinema went to Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard, for “Amistad” and “Good Will Hunting.”

Peoples’ Choice award, which was voted on by moviegoers and magazine readers, went to Roland Emmerich for “Godzilla.”
