It must be wine o’clock: Saturday Night Live alum Cecily Strong returned to the show this week to reprise her role as Fox News host-turned-interim U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro. (And yes, she brought a bottle of red with her.)
In this week’s cold open, James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump interrupted the cast’s sweet Mother’s Day message, shooing them off stage to ramble about the newly elected Pope Leo and his trade deals, among other things. He also crowed about appointing “one of the loudest people I know” to be the interim U.S. attorney in Washington D.C., with Strong’s Pirro joining him holding a bag — which she revealed was a “cozy for my Merlozzy,” pulling a bottle of wine and a glass out of it and guzzling it right down.
Pirro told Trump how proud she is to be part of his administration “full of Russian assets, boozehounds and people famous for the little baby animals they’ve killed.” She also promised to be tough on immigration because she’s not afraid to send people back: “My friends know I’ve sent back every salad I’ve ever ordered at a restaurant.”
Trump raved about his previous Fox News hire, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Pirro giggled that he was her “old drinking buddy.” Just then, they were joined by Colin Jost as Hegseth — and Pirro promptly spit red wine in his face in surprise. He swore he’s not drinking anymore… but he offered Pirro a bottle of whiskey to spit into his mouth so he could get a little taste. “They’re not the A-Team,” Trump smiled. “They’re the AA Team.”

I hated thinking we were actually getting a week off from the monster, even impersonations of him make me sick, only for that to not be the case – but it was all worth it to see Cecily again doing spittakes on Colin. However, what was with the jokes in the all foot sketch? Apparently SNL has NOT learned their lesson about body shaming. And yes, laughing about two inches is body shaming .
TDS is curable. You know this, right? Help is available.
That’s not a real thing. You know that, right?
Fun episode and great weekend update. Terrible musical guests though and I guess they didnât show up to sound check because it sounded really bad.
Judging from the interactions at goodnights, Arcade Fire was a request of Walt Goggins’ mom. ;)
Worth it for the cold open with Cecily spitting all over Colin since I had money on that! The rest was meh. Didn’t care for most of the skits. Weekend Update was fine, but no great shakes. Walton Goggins is what happens when you start believing your own hype.
Walton Goggins has been a sexy beast WAY before White Lotus! I’ve been crushing on him since The Shield.
I noticed Chloe Fineman wasn’t in any skits or pre taped segments but was at the closing good-by. There ware at least 2 other shows where she was not in skits or only in a pre taped segment. To quote Keenen “What’s up with that?”. Is she busy with another project?
She might have been busy promoting Summer of 69 which was released Friday.
Sometimes a cast member just isn’t in anything. Ask Michael Longfellow. ;)
James Austin Johnsonâs Donald Trump is so well performed and written. Brilliant. Solid show Goggins is a solid actor and I thought the show was really solid this week. And Cecliy Strong was superb as always (one of the all time great cast members)!
Gotta love the way Colin Jost didn’t even attempt to look or sound like Pete Hegseth.
