5. A circle of radius 4 cm passes through the vertices of a regular octagon. Determine the area
of the circle that lies outside the octagon. Give your answer to 4 s.f. (3 marks)
6. Three alarms A, B and C ring together at 10.00 a.m. They ring at intervals of 15 minutes,
35 minutes and 50 minutes respectively. How many hours after 10.00 a.m. will they first
ring together again? (3 marks)
7. A cylindrical container of diameter 35 cm and height 20 cm is two – fifths full of water. The
container is filled using a smaller cylindrical can of diameter 7 cm and height 10 cm. Find
the number of cans that must be drawn in order to fill the container. (4 marks)
8. Using a ruler and pair of compasses only, construct trapezium WXYZ such that WX = 5 cm,
WZ = 4 cm, ZWX = 30 , where ZY is parallel to WX. (3 marks)

9. The figure below shows a circle centre O. AOB is a sector and angle AOB = 84° as shown.
Given that the area of sector AOB is 10 cm2, find the radius of the circle to 2 s.f. and hence
calculate the area of the shaded part. (4 marks)
10. The following figure represents part of a pattern. A line of symmetry, L1, of the pattern is
also shown.
Complete the pattern and hence state the order of rotational symmetry of the patterns.

14. The figure alongside shows a right – angled triangle ABC. The dimensions of the triangle
in centimetres are given in terms of k .
Determine:

(b) the perimeter of the triangle. (1 mark)
15. Three business ladies Janet, Christine and Judith contributed Ksh. 100, 000, Ksh. 120, 000
and Ksh. 130, 000 respectively to start a business. The profits made each month was shared
in the ratio of their contributions. During a certain month, Christine received Ksh. 32,760
more than Janet got. Determine Judith’s share of the profit that month. (3 marks)
16. The angle of elevation of the top of a building from a point A is 18.5°. The angle of
elevation of the top of the building from another point B is 50.6°. If point B is 20 m from
the base of the bilding, calculate to one decimal place;
(a) the height of the building; (2 marks)

17. ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AC = BC. The coordinates of A and B are (–2, 1) and
(6, –3) respectively and M is the mid-point of AB. Given that the equation of AC is
x − 3 y + 5 = 0, find:
(a) the equation of CM in the form y = mx + c where m and c are constants. (4 marks)
(b) the coordinates of C. (3 marks)
(c) the x and y intercepts of BC. (3 marks)

18. Three business partners Areba, Ondeto and Bitutu contributed some money towards a 3 year
investment. Areba contributed 40% of the money and Ondeto and Bitutu contributed in the
ratio 7:5. Areba contributed Ksh. 36, 000 more than Bitutu.
(a) Determine:
(i) the amount of money the partners contributed. (3 marks)
(ii) the ratio of the contribution of the three partners. (2 marks)
(b) The investment had 2 plans:
Plan A: Earn 5% per annum interest compounded annually
Plan B: Earn 5% per annum interest compounded quarterly
Calculate the difference in interests between the two plans. (5 marks)

(i) Form a matrix to represent the above information. (2 marks)
(ii) Use matrix method to determine the cost of a Mathematics book and a Chemistry book
in shop B. (4 marks)

20. A group of investors decided to contribute Ksh. 600, 000 equally to buy a 2 acre piece of
land. However, five members pulled out of the project and so the remaining members were
to contribute an extra Ksh. 6, 000 each.
(a) Taking x to be the original number of members in the group, write an expression of x for:
(i) the amount that each member was to contribute initially; (1 mark)
(ii) the amount that was contributed by each of the remaining members. (1 mark)
(b) Form an equation in x and hence find the number of members who contributed the money.
(4 marks)
(c) They later sub-divided the land into smaller pieces of 0.125 acres and sold each piece at
Ksh. 50, 0000.
(i) Find the number of smaller pieces they had. (1 mark)
(ii) Calculate the percentage profit they made from the sale of the smaller pieces.

21. Three warships A, B and C are at sea such that B is 400 km on a bearing 030° from ship A.
Ship C is 750 km from ship B on a bearing of 120° from ship B. An enemy ship E is
sighted 1,080 km due South of ship B.
(a) Taking a scale of 1 cm to represent 100 km, locate the position of ships A, B, C and E.
(4 marks)
(b) Find:
(i) the bearing of C from E. (1 mark)
(ii) the distance between A and E. (2 marks)
(c) A point D is equidistant from the warships A, B an C on the scale drawing. Locate the
point D hence determine the distance between ship E and point D. (3 marks)

22. The following figure represents a piece of land in the shape of a trapezium ABCDD. Line
AB and C are parallel. Point M is the mid – point of AB. The land is divided into three
triangular plots. Line AB = 150 m, AD = 58.5 m, DM = 61.5 m and angle ABC = 30°.
(a) Calculate the area of the triangular plot AMD and hence the perpendicular distance
between the two parallel sides. (4 marks)
(b) Calculate the length of:
(i) BC; (2 marks)
(ii) MC. (2 marks)
(c) Calculate the size of the obtuse angle BMC. (2 marks)

24. The equation of a curve is given by y = x3 − x 2 − 5x + 3.
(a) Determine:
(i) the stationary points of the curve y = x3 − x 2 − 5x + 3; (3 marks)
(ii) the nature of the stationary points in (a) (i) above. (2 marks)
(b) Find the equation of a:
(i) tangent to the curve y = x3 − x2 − 5x + 3 at x = −2; (3 marks)
