The Gold Coast SUNS are set to face Queensland rival, the Brisbane Lions this Sunday at the Gabba in what will be their 28th QClash encounter.

With the SUNS sitting third on the AFL ladder and the Lions perched only just above, this year’s QClash will be the first time both teams meet in the top three, sparking eyes & ears beyond the border.

“QClash means a lot to our boys, but we want to make sure our actions do the talking,” SUNS Captain Noah Anderson said.

“I understand the outside noise being a little bit larger, but we're just focused on what's going on inside the four walls and I guess that feels different.

“We feel like we're playing better footy and we're more connected and are growing in confidence.

“So I guess the belief is up, but you know, every time we've played in the past, we've had good belief we could knock them off but to their credit, they've got it done more times than not.”

The Brisbane Lions currently hold a 20-7 record since the inaugural QClash in 2011, however young forward Jed Walter is confident the SUNS’ system can make history this weekend.

“We're playing great footy at the moment. We're just focusing week-to-week,” Walter said.

“They're obviously a great side and we know that, but we'll definitely go to work and just play the SUNS' brand of footy this weekend.

“Hopefully we can start turning the page and start putting it more the SUNS’ way over the next few years.”

This clash will be the first as skipper for Anderson, making QClash #28 a special occasion.

“I think I've played in a lot of these games now and still want to leave my mark on it a little bit more,” Anderson said.

“So yeah, it'll be an important game.”

Sunday’s unmissable clash is expected to be close to a sell-out at the Gabba, highlighting the growth of AFL football in the sunshine state.

“QClash is just great for Queensland supporters of football in general,” Anderson said.

“So, it's great to be able to make some noise and make the Gold Coast community proud and have a team to really push along.”

“Hopefully it's a great game and we put on a great show for the fans as well,” Walter added.
