The Australian Open Access Support Group (AOASG) exists to:

  1. Advocate
  2. Collaborate
  3. Raise Awareness
  4. Lead & Build Capacity

Your contribution is welcome

The AOASG invites members of the broader open access community in Australia to contribute to the discussion on the AOASG Open Access Community Discussion list. Interested people can subscribe by going here.

This site aims to be an authoritative location for all aspects of the open access discussion in Australia. We welcome your suggestions and contributions through the Contact us page.

AOASG Terms of Reference

The Australian Open Access Support Group Terms of Reference are:

1. Advocacy

  • To advocate for open access outcomes from publicly funded research
  • To provide leadership through providing information to government funding bodies, researchers and policy makers

2. Collaboration

  • To collaborate and develop relationships with organisations of researchers and scholarly communications (for example the Australia Digital Alliance and Council of Australian University Librarians) to support open access
  • To maximise the collective knowledge of AOASG membership by collaborating with each other to support open access objectives

3. Raising awareness

  • To provide a voice within the region on open access and to contribute to international discussions around the world
  • To ensure that the research community and Australian community more broadly has access to accurate information on open access, actively identifying and addressing misinformation.
  • To remain abreast of, and engage in, current debates including providing arguments for open access
  • To identify potential issues for the future including their complexities and possible impacts

4. Lead and build capacity

  • To remain nimble and flexible and evolve to ensure the organisation is sustainable.
  • To develop capabilities in Australian research organisations to advance open access.
