Hi folks! I am really sorry to ruin the mood but https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/puppet/+/1080357 was reverted, it caused an issue with endless HTTP 301 redirects for www.wikipedia.org (keep redirecting to www.wikipedia.org/).

TL;DR: Everything looks quite reasonable, with the usual expected variation here and there. The one exception is Japanese, where the new model is clearly (but without a clear reason) outperforming the old model. If the stats were reversed, I wouldn't recommend deploying the new model. I'm not sure how to extract out my preference there into something that could be automatically approved or blocked.

search is working again, thanks! I'm pretty sure the uselang part has never actually done anything, hence T364348: Ability to set language when viewing a portal (ie. wikipedia.org) page. At the moment it just defaults to the user's primary browser language, which seems fine for the de.wikipedia use case

Thinking on some of the usecases related to Content Translation, where people can use them to find relevant articles to translate associated to them, I can share some thoughts about the questions below:
No. Countries are expected to be a stable list. In any case, if there is a change (e.g., when Czechoslovakia became two separate countries), the expectation is for that to be reflected in the list transparently. That is, users would be able so select countries to find articles related to them based on the latest version of the list.
