Michael Peter Sherman, a pre-school teacher from Rockville was among eight men arrested by The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), in collaboration with the Northern Virginia Washington DC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (NOVA-DC ICAC), after concluding an internet chat operation during the week of April 21, 2025 that resulted in detectives obtaining charges on eight adult males who were trying to use the internet to exploit children in Loudoun County.

Silver Spring, MD – The Montgomery County Pride Center is proud to announce the 9th annual MoCo Pride Prom, a special event for LGBTQ+ high school students and their allies across the DMV area. Taking place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Silver Spring Civic Center, this prom provides a safe, affirming space where students can celebrate prom with pride—dressing as they wish, dancing without fear, and making unforgettable memories.

Open to all high school students from Maryland, D.C., and Virginia, the event features a live DJ, catered dinner, raffle prizes, and gift bags, along with access to quiet crafting and game space. Gender-neutral facilities will be available to ensure a comfortable experience for all attendees.

Montgomery County officials are urging residents to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and using safe ride options such as SoberRide, Ride On bus service, and other transportation resources. Enhanced police patrols will be in effect on May 5 to deter impaired driving. (more…)

Beyond MoCo

The City of Bowie, MD will lose Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor after the 2025 season, as Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced plans to close the parks and market the 500-acre property for redevelopment. In a news release, the company cited a strategic realignment of its portfolio and has engaged CBRE to oversee the sale, with all 2025 tickets and passes still valid for the final season. (more…)
