Clarence Edmund "Butch" Avinger (December 15, 1928 – August 20, 2008) was an American professional football player and coach. He played college football for Alabama as a fullback and punter and professionally for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He also coached for Alabama.

Avinger was drafted ninth overall in the 1951 NFL draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers.[1] He only saw action in 1953 when he played for the New York Giants.[2]

After Avinger's playing career was over, he was hired as the assistant freshmen coach for his alma mater, Alabama.[3] The following year, alongside Happy Campbell and Joe Kilgrow, Avinger assisted with the offensive backfield.[4] After two seasons, he resigned to work for Allis-Chalmers in Gadsden, Alabama.[5]
