Funding for middle schools

Middle schools are funded under the National Funding Formula and through the local Schools Forum. Their funding is made up of a flat rate element (as for all schools) and then the same per pupil rates that would apply for all children in KS2 or KS3 in their authority. The higher level of funding for KS3 pupils enable middle schools to offer all their pupils a degree of specialist teaching and the benefit of working in specialist facilities not generally available in a primary school such as a science laboratory and technology workshop from the age of 9.
