2. Product description
The Schleuniger PowerStrip 9500, high-performance cable cutting and stripping machine permits efficient
quality cutting and stripping of wires, braids and tubing. The machine is programmed and operated via a
grafic supported screen. The standard V-blades handle wires with normal requirements. Difficult and
demanding wire types can be processed with radiused blades and die blades. Once the various stripping
parameters are programmed, wire processing is fully automatic. Due to its wide range of applications in
terms of diameters and lengths as well as the optional use of various types of blades and feed rollers, the
machine can process virtually all wires and braids on the market today.
3. Responsibilities
The operator of the machine bears the responsibility for ensuring that every person who works with the
Schleuniger PS 9500 receives precise instruction from the operating instructions provided (set-up,
operation, maintenance). The training of the operation personnel must include the following points:

Inorder to that all the instructions be understood, the training must take place in the language of the
operating personnel. Consequently the following personal qualifications are required:
Installation, set-up, Technical skilled personnel who have mastered English and/or German as
instruction well as the language of the operating personnel.
Operation Staff trained in accordance with "3 Responsibilities".
Maintenance, service Technical skilled personnel who have mastered English or German
5. Danger areas
Please pay attention to the following danger areas with particular care:
• The area around the feed rollers serving to advance the wire
• The area around the blades
• The area around the point of exit of the cable or wire (which must be kept clear at all
times!)
- Special caution must be exercised to protect sensitive body parts such as the
eyes since the wire may exit from the unit at high speed.
• The entire interior of the machine:
- Danger of contact with high voltage
- Danger from moving mechanical parts
• The area around the wire guides, when the PS 9500 is operated with pneumatic wire
guides.
6. Safety requirements
• This machine has been designed in accordance with the European Standard EN294 for
persons above the age of 14 years. It is strictly forbidden to allow access to the machine
to persons younger than this age.
• Never operate the machine in environments where there is a risk of fire or explosion.
• The machine must only be operated in rooms that are dry and free from dust.
• Never operate the machine without its safety covers.
• Never work on the machine without wearing eye protection.
• Disconnect the machine from the electrical and/or compressed air supply before
carrying out any maintenance work.
• Never operate the machine with the mains earth disconnected.
• Do not make any modifications to the machine and only utilise it for its intended
purpose according to Paragraph "2. Product Description". Other applications are only
permitted with the written approval of the manufacturer. The manufacturer will accept no
liability for damage resulting from the disregard of this regulation.
• Never operate the machine without first having read through and understood all
instructions.
• Repair work may only be carried out by authorised persons who have been specially
trained for this work.
• Ensure that long hair is not worn loose, and do not wear loose clothing or ornaments
that could become caught in the moving parts of the machine.
• Only use the lubricant that was delivered with this machine according to these operating
instructions.
• According to the Machine Directive, an emergency-stop unit (Schleuniger art. no.
701.9812) is compulsory for Schleuniger wire-processing machines, if they are operated
in conjunction with other peripherals in a production line. This in order to guarantee a
safe stop of the whole system in case of an emergency.

2. Produktebeschreibung
Der elektrisch betriebene, hochleistungsfähige Kabel-Abläng- und Abisolierautomat PowerStrip 9500
dient dem rationellen Schneiden und Abisolieren von Kabeln, Drähten, Litzen oder Schläuchen in hoher
Qualität. Der Automat verfügt über eine benutzerfreundliche Software. Der Benutzer programmiert den
Automaten im Dialog mit einem Bildschirm, welcher das Programmieren grafisch unterstützt. Die V-
Messer (Standardmesser) eignen sich für Materialien mit normalen Anforderungen. Mit den Radius- und
Formmessern können selbst schwierigste und anspruchsvollste Materialien verarbeitet werden. Nach
dem Programmieren der Schneid- und Abisolierparameter, erfolgt die Verarbeitung vollautomatisch. Der
grosse Einsatzbereich bezüglich Durchmesser und Länge sowie der wahlweise Einsatz verschiedener
Messertypen und Vorschubrollen, erlaubt die Verarbeitung nahezu aller auf dem Markt erhältlichen
Kabel, Drähte und Litzen.
3. Verantwortlichkeiten
Der Betreiber der Maschine trägt die Verantwortung, dass jede Person, die mit dem Schleuniger PS 9500
arbeitet, anhand der vorliegenden Betriebsanleitung genau instruiert worden ist (setup, Bedienung,
Instandhaltung). Die Ausbildung des Bedienpersonals muss folgende Punkte enthalten:

Bitte beachten Sie die folgenden Gefährdungsbereiche mit besonderer Vorsicht:
• Bereich der linken und der rechten Vorschubbänder (-rollen) welche dem Transport des
Materials dienen

• Bereich des Materialaustrittes (muss stets freigehalten werden!)
- Besondere Vorsicht ist bei empfindlichen Körperteilen geboten, z.B. Augen, weil das
bearbeitete Material mit hoher Geschwindigkeit aus der Maschine austreten kann!
• Gesamter Innenraum des Automaten:
- Gefahr durch elektrische Spannung bei Berührung
- Gefahr durch mechanisch bewegte Teile
• Bereich der Kabelführungen bei den Messern, bei Automaten mit pneumatisch
betriebenen Kabelführungen
6. Sicherheitsbestimmungen
• Die Maschine wurde gemäss der Europäischen Norm EN294 für Personen über 14
Jahre ausgelegt. Es ist strikte verboten, jüngeren Personen Zutritt zu der Maschine zu
gewähren.
• Betreiben Sie die Maschine nie in explosions- oder feuergefährdeter Umgebung.
• Die Maschine darf nur in trockenen, staubfreien Räumen betrieben werden.
• Betreiben Sie die Maschine nie ohne Schutzabdeckung.
• Arbeiten Sie nie ohne Augenschutz an der Maschine.
• Trennen Sie die Maschine vom elektrischen Stromanschluss und/oder von der
Druckluft, bevor Sie irgendwelche Unterhaltsarbeiten vornehmen.
• Betreiben Sie die Maschine nie ohne angeschlossene Schutzerde.
• Ändern Sie die Maschine nicht ab und setzen Sie sie nur für den vorgesehenen
Verwendungszweck ein, gemäss Abschnitt "2. Produktebeschreibung". Andere
Verwendungszwecke sind nur mit schriftlicher Zustimmung des Herstellers zulässig.
Für Schäden, die aus dem Missachten dieser Vorschrift entstehen, lehnt der Hersteller
jede Haftung ab.
• Betreiben Sie die Maschine nicht, bevor Sie alle Anweisungen gelesen und verstanden

• Instandhaltungsarbeiten dürfen nur berechtigte und für diese Tätigkeit ausgebildete

werden, sofern sie zusammen mit Peripheriegeräten in einer Produktionslinie
zusammenarbeiten, um im Notfall ein sicheres Stillsetzen der gesamten Anlage zu
garantieren.

3. Responsabilità
L'esercente della macchina è responsabile che ogni persona, che lavora con il PS 9500 sia stata
correttamente istruita in base alle presenti istruzioni sull'uso (messa in esercizio, comando,
manutenzione). La formazione del personale addetto al comando della macchina deve abbracciare i
seguenti punti:
• Uso conforme della macchina (vedi sezione "2. Descrizione del prodotto").
5. Campi di pericolosità
Vogliate usare particolare precauzione nei seguenti campi di pericolosità:
• Zona delle ruote di avanzamento di sinistra e di destra che servono per il trasporto del
cavo
• Zona delle lame
• Zona di espulsione cavi (deve essere sempre mantenuta libera!)
- Particolare attenzione si deve prestare per parti sensibili del corpo, per esempio gli
occhi, poichè il cavo può fuoriuscire ad alta velocità dalla macchina!
• Spazio interno della tagliaspelafili
- Pericolo di contatto con parti sotto tensione elettrica
- Pericolo per la presenza di parti meccaniche in movimento
• La zona attorno alle guide filo, quando la PS 9500 lavora con guide filo pneumatiche.
6. Disposizioni di sicurezza
• La macchina è stata progettata secondo la Norma Europea EN294 per persone con più di 14 anni
d’età. È severamente vietato fare accedere alla macchina persone di età inferiore.
• Non mettere mai in funzione la macchina in un ambiente a rischio di esplosione o
d’incendio.
• La macchina deve essere messa in funzione unicamente in locali asciutti e privi di
polvere.
• Non mettere mai in funzione la macchina quando la stessa è sprovvista dell’apposito
carter di protezione.
• Non lavorare alla macchina senza avere prima indossato l’apposita protezione per gli occhi.
• Prima di effettuare qualsiasi lavoro di manutenzione, separare la macchina
dall’alimentazione della corrente elettrica e/o dall’aria compressa.
• Non mettere mai in funzione la macchina quando non è collegata alla terra.
• Non modificare la macchina e utilizzare la stessa unicamente per gli scopi descritti nel
paragrafo "2. Descrizione del prodotto". Scopi diversi da quelli qui riportati sono
ammessi solo con l’approvazione scritta del costruttore. Il costruttore declina qualsiasi
responsabilità per i danni derivanti dalla mancata osservanza di questa clausola.
• Non mettere in funzione la macchina prima di avere letto e compreso tutte le istruzioni.
• Gli interventi di riparazione devono essere eseguiti unicamente da persone autorizzate e
qualificate per quest’attività.
• Evitare di tenere sciolti i capelli lunghi, non indossare abiti troppo ampi o gioielli, affinché
gli stessi non possano restare impigliati negli elementi in movimento della macchina.
• Utilizzare i lubrificanti forniti in dotazione esclusivamente secondo quanto riportato in
queste istruzioni per l’uso.
• In osservanza della Direttiva Macchine, se le macchine Schleuniger per la lavorazione
dei cavi sono operative insieme ad apparecchi periferici in una linea di produzione,
devono essere obbligatoriamente azionate tramite un unità di arresto d'emergenza (n.
art. Schleuniger 701.9812), affinché in un caso di emergenza si possa garantire un
arresto sicuro dell'intero impianto.

• Zone autour des guides-fil, lorsque la PS 9500 fonctionne avec des guides-fil pneumatiques.
6. Dispositions de sécurité
• La machine a été conçue pour des personnes âgées de plus de 14 ans conformément à
la norme européenne EN294. Il est strictement interdit d'accorder l'accès à la machine à
des personnes plus jeunes.
• Ne pas utiliser la machine dans un environnement déflagrant ou inflammable.
• La machine ne doit être mise en service que dans des locaux secs exempt de poussière.

2. Productbeschrijving
De Schleuniger Power-Strip 9500. Is een hoogwaardige kabel snij/strip/ontmantel machine. Geeft een
hoge graad en kwaliteit bij het knippen, strippen en ontmantelen van draden, kabel, gevlochten kabel en
slang. De machine is programmeerbaar via een grafisch beeldscherm. De standaard V-messen zijn
inzetbaar bij draden met normale verwerkingsvoorschriften. Moeilijk te verwerken draadtypes zijn te
verwerken met radius messen of met matrijsvormmessen. Zijn de verwerkingsparameters eenmaal
ingeprogrammeerd, dan geschied de bewerking van het te verwerken materiaal volautomatisch. Door zijn
groot bereik in toepassingen qua diameter, lengte en de optie van diverse type toe te passen messen en
transportwielen, kan de machine praktisch alle voorkomende draden en kabels in de handel verkrijgbaar,
verwerken.
3. Verantwoordelijkheid
De exploitant van de machine is ervoor verantwoordelijk dat iedereen die met PS 9500 van Schleuniger
werkt, grondig is geïnstrueerd aan de hand van deze bedieningshandleiding (inbedrijfstelling, bediening,
instandhouding). De scholing van het bedienend personeel dient de volgende punten te omvatten:

• Gebruik de machine nooit in een omgeving waar gevaar van explosie of brand bestaat.
• De machine mag alleen in droge, stofvrije ruimtes worden gebruikt.

This is the connection for the Hot Stamp Unit (HS = Hot Stamp) or for a wire feeder (PF =
Prefeeder). If you wish to connect both units simultaneously to the PowerStrip you will need a Y

in the event of a fault on the prefeeder. With Schleuniger prefeed units, the corresponding

feed Feed is used to move a wire forward, the feed speed is approx. 30 cm/sec.
The value depends upon the device version.
cut The cut key is for cutting a wire, the waste is ejected by the right feed belts.
(In Short-Mode the wire is not ejected). cut only functions if it has been
proceeded by pressing close or load.
load/unload If no wire has been loaded into the PowerStrip carry out an automatic feed
using load/unload. The wire is moved forward to the right feed belts, cut
and the waste ejected.
Press load/unload. If a wire has been loaded the feed belts rotate
backwards and the wire comes out to the left.
If you are using a wire straightener you should open the wire
straightener before using unload.
test test is for producing a test wire. The dimensions of the test wire are
programmed in the "stripping test" screen (Page 115) You can check the
blade setting on the test wire. test only functions in the "Normal wire" menu.

single By pressing single, the machine will produce one test piece of the wire
currently programmed. Measure the "single wire" so that you correct any
additional deviations prior to series production. This does not affect the pre-
programmed total quantity or individual totals.
Single step In the day-to-day operating process a wire program goes through the cycle
from beginning to end in one action after you have pressed run. For
troubleshooting or for custom wire analyses you can run the operating
process in single steps. You can activate the single step mode in any screen
in which the run key also functions. Press stop. Now press f1 or f6 to switch
the single step mode on or off. If you have switched the single step mode on
start the processing by pressing run. For each single step now press f1.
If you are working in the “Wire list” menu and you press the Emergency-Stop key the
current quantity and batch size will be lost. Pressing stop will interrupt the production
process just as quickly. You can however continue with your work without having to
carry out any new settings. In other words, only use the red-yellow Emergency-Stop
key in an emergency.

The image in picture 17 shows how the software in PowerStrip is built up. The main menu
consists of 6 menus. You reach further screens and functions from the 6 menus. What does this
mean?
Let us suppose that you are in the main menu and press 1. The screen for menu "Normal wire"
appears. Now press "Default" in the footer. You stay in this screen and the function "Default" will
be executed. If however you press "File", a further screen appears for further entries.
You can find commands for functions not only in the footer. They are also directly integrated in
some screens. Thus for example, you can find the "Stop conditions" in the "Wire list" menu
screen. In this case, move the cursor to the "Stop conditions" field (@) and enter the desired
command.
NORMAL WIRE
To get into the "Normal wire" menu from the main menu press 1. The normal wire menu enables
you to produce single wires quickly and conveniently. Enter the description of your wire (length,
quantity, etc.) and use f3 "Default" to automatically match all processing parameters to this wire.
The “Feeding", "Cutting" and "Options” screens offer you direct access to the processing
parameters if required. Additional screens are used to control a marker unit and access to the
database in which the normal wires are stored. Figure 18 shows the most complex design which
can be produced in the normal wire menu.

The type of wire is selected in the upper left (Figure 12, Page 40). The following wire types are
available:
• AWG solid: Wire defined as American Wire Gauge with solid conductor.
• AWG stranded: Wire defined as American Wire Gauge with stranded conductors.
• Direct measurements: In this field you determine the internal and external diameters
yourself (0 - 14 mm). Activating both fields for the diameter produces a graphic for entering
your dimensions (I.D. / O.D).
• mm2 solid: Wire defined as square millimetre with solid conductor. There is only a limited
range of permitted diameters (solid wire) available.
• mm2 stranded: Wire defined as square millimetre with stranded conductor. There is only a
limited range of permitted diameters available.
The wire and stripping lengths are selected with the help of the graphically illustrated wire in
the "Normal wire" menu (Figure 12, page 40).
• Enter the required lengths in each black highlighted field.
• You can change the "Definition" menu field with @ to the "Mesured" and "%-Correction"
fields which you use to carry out length corrections (See Page 146).
The function keys f1 to f6 and f+ are used to change the various parameters in the "Normal
wire" menu, save programs and select marking positions. The function keys refer to the
definitions in the menu footer.

have already been entered in this screen, then these are overwritten

Reset_corr.
This function clears all programmed length corrections:
• The length correction is set to 100%.
• All actual values are set to 0.
File
On the screen f5 = file you can
delete, save, load, print and protect
your wire programs. The wire

Save, label
Before you can save a wire file, you must first give it a label, otherwise it will be saved with the
"old" name:
In the screen footer you will now find the alphabet and symbols divided into groups. f+ changes
the footer, giving you another set of symbols. Select the capital letters using f+.
PROG 1 is now listed in the "Current normal wire" screen. You can not save two wire programs
under the same name. The existing one will be overwritten. However, the PowerStrip warns you
in advance of any program being inadvertently overwritten.
List separators
Any symbol that you can use to label a program can also be used as a list separator. The most
useful however is a comma or a vertical stroke. Wire lists can be sorted according to various
criteria with the help of list separators. The name of a program can for example consist of a
number, an author’s abbreviation, a raw material number and a colour. If these attributes are
separated by a maximum of 3 separators then you can sort a list according to these attributes.
The list separators are defined under "User Interface", Page 115.
2. Print, protect
Sort
With long Wire list it is convenient to have the wire programs sorted according to specific
codes. The Wire lists in the PowerStrip can be sorted according to the name, the wire
diameter, the length and the type of stripping. You can sort programs in two different ways:
ascending 1,2,3 / A,B,C or descending 3,2,1 / C,B,A:
• Label f2 sorts programs according to the wire name, sub-divided into four categories:
Label ^^^ f2 The ^ symbol stands for the list separator (Page 52). The list
separator is preceded by the comma. It can be defined in the
^ Label ^^ f3
"Configuration", "User Interface" menu (See Page 115). For example,
^^ Label ^ f4 f3 sorts according to the text contained between the first and the
second separator.
^^^ Label f5
Number f3 "Number" sorts according to the pure numerical value. "A/d/s" sorts
according to the type of entry (AWG, diameter value or mm2). "- / ~"
A / D /s f4
sorts according to solid or stranded.
-/~ f5
If you wish to simultaneously protect or unprotect several wire programs, select these with
enter @ and then press f4 or f5.
Feeding
(Key sequence to the "Feeding" screen: main menu 1 f+ f2).
This screen is for altering the feed and stripping speeds as well as the ramps (acceleration).
This is also where you define the pressure on the wire during the feeding and stripping process
as well as the gap between the feed belts left and right.

In normal cases a pressure of 0 to 1 is sufficient. However, the pressure must be increased
depending upon the wire composition. The diagram should be seen as a rule of thumb guide.

Gap
This value determines the feed belt opening when the wire is being pulled in and when
processing wires in the “single discard” mode. The distance must be slightly smaller than the
wire diameter.
Long end
This line appears on the screen if the stripping length exceeds the distance between the blades
and the right feed belts. The right feed belts open slightly during the stripping process. This
prevents the belts pressing too forcibly on the wires, a situation which could lead to incorrect
stripping. This measurement should be slightly larger than the wire diameter.

Cutting
(Key sequence to the "Cutting" screen: Main menu 1 f+ f3).
This is where you specify which blades are to process a wire and the operating speed of the
blades. To change functions press @. To get into the menu fields press enter.
Move
The optimum speed with which the blades cut a wire depends very much on the composition of
the wire. For most wires the default values provide the optimum processing results. Power
wires can however often be cut at a faster speed.
Stripping
In the 1st position a blade is always
mounted in a way which can cut
through a wire. In normal cases [Link] 2. position
this will be a V blade, rarer cases a V-blades radius or
radius blade. Die blades can only die blades
be used for stripping. You should
therefore fit these in the 2nd position
which is activated by pressing the
@ sign. The wire is then cut in the
1st position and stripped in the 2nd

Right cut
This is where you make adjustments to the cutting depth into the insulation for the right end of
the wire. The values entered here are offsets, shallower or deeper, to the values calculated by
the machine based on the wire size.
Left cut
This is where you make adjustments to the cutting depth into the insulation for the left end of the
wire. The values entered here are offsets, shallower or deeper, to the values calculated by the
machine based on the wire size.
Way Back
After the incision is made into the insulation, the blades move back slightly to prevent damaging
the conductor during the stripping process.
Positions
While feeding
After each step the blades move back to the home position during the wire feed. In the home
position "0" the blades are fully closed, in the maximum home position the blades are fully open.
The home position setting can be adjusted. If for example you are processing a wire with a
diameter of5 mm it makes little sense for the blades to retract 18 mm. That takes up time. In this
case for example you would select a home position of 7 mm. This speeds up the processing
time.

Options
Discard / no discard
If discard is activated then a stripped piece of insulation is cut through following a full strip. This
prevents insulation slugs from sticking to the blade. Processing takes slightly longer. If the
function has been deactivated, then the piece of insulation is not cut though. This can result in a
wire jam, depending on the type of wire and insulation material. Processing is slightly faster.
Options
(Key sequence for the "Options" screen: main menu 1 f+ f4).
This is where you specify the parameters which can not be sorted either under "Cutting" or
under "Feeding" or "Marking".

The deviation to the measured length of the encoder is retraced. This correcting action is
retraced 3 times. If the nominal value still is not achieved, an error message is issued.
Restrictions with the encoder: The following factors have a negative effect on the
measurement result of the encoder:
• steep acceleration ramps (inertia of the measurement system)
• differing friction coefficients of the wire surface
• dirt on the encoder
• inaccurate encoder calibration
• inappropriate wire guide diameters
• jerking movements in the wire feed
• wire stretching during the feed process.
The encoder is not a substitute for a good, even wire feed (active prefeeder)! Accuracies of 1/10
mm and less cannot be achieved even under ideal conditions. The results achieved depend
very much on various factors:
• feed speed
• feed ramp
• wire feed
• insulation material
• wire composition and structure
• wire stretching

Air Jet
Insulation residues can become stuck to the blades and even get into the right wire guide
particularly when processing thin wires and short stripping lengths. The reason why materials
stick is because they are statically charged. These insulation residues can cause a wire jam.
With the air jet device (Option) the insulation residues are blown away from the area of the
blades by compressed air after each cut. The air jet device is also used for wires with a high
talc content in order to reduce the level of dirt.
The duration of the blast of air can be selected between 0 and 999 ms. If you enter "0" the air
jet function is switched off. If you program 1 ms the air jet cycle will only take place whilst the
blades are opening. If you program a longer air jet time than 1 ms then the air jet cycle
continues whilst the blades are opening plus the programmed air jet time.
The ideal air jet time depends upon the composition of the wire and is best determined through
trial and error.

Make sure, that when operating the PowerStrip 9500 with the
CableCoiler 1400 / 4000 the right full-strip-mode is set to „Blade only“.
Reasons:
• No slug in the wire guide tube of the CableCoiler 1400 / 4000.
Ejection
With Single ejection, the finished processed wire is ejected using the right feed belts and only
then is the next wire produced. This kind of processing is recommended if you are working with
a stacker, to complete one wire and eject it before processing the next one.
With continuous ejection the processed wire remains between the right feed rollers and work
commences immediately on the next wire. The ejection procedure is carried out automatically
during the next feed process. This kind of processing is faster, because there is no waste time
for single ejection.
Custom processing
If at least one unit has been defined under “Configuration”, “Custom wire”, then they can be
selected here. If the wire reaches the given position during the processing then the predefined
procedure is carried out. The “Pickup” field of “Custom wire” is not evaluated. In other words,
the belts hold the wire throughout the entire process.
No post processing
Various devices for stacking and winding can be connected to the PowerStrip.
Incorrect handling of these devices can lead to injuries. It is vital to follow the
instructions on the device warning notices and to comply with the safety instructions
in the operating manuals.
WS 3000
Position: To enable the WS 3000 to take the wire from the PowerStrip smoothly and without
any errors it must first be completely stopped. In other words, you determine a position on the
wire on which the wire is to be held by the feed belts until taken by the WS 3000. The starting
point for calculating this position is a specific distance from the blades (Figure 30). This distance
is freely programmable (Configuration, Devices, Distance menu) and in our case is the distance
between the blades and the roller axes. If you now enter the value “0” for “Position” the wire will
be held precisely at the left end.

If you enter the value "10" for “Position” the wire will be held at a distance of 10 mm from the left
end (Figure 31). From a purely theoretical viewpoint you could also enter the position 950 on a
wire 1000 mm in length. The wire would then be held at a distance of 950 mm from the left wire
end, although this of course would make no sense.

Distance from blades
The two settings "Position" and "Kick-off” enable you to design the kick-off procedure
as it were. If you increase the “Kick-off” value in millimetres the acceleration also
increases. The trick naturally only works if a sufficiently large "Position" value is
simultaneously selected.
Kick-off duration: The kick-off duration depends upon how quickly a wire falls out of the
retaining rail. The retaining rail on the WS 3000 must remain in the up position until the kick-off
procedure has been completed.
Batch: The WS 3000 has an upper, movable tray. Once a batch is complete this tray tips up
and the batch falls into the bottom, fixed tray. You have 5 different versions for removing the
batch:
• With “never stop” the PowerStrip places the 1st batch in the movable tray, tips the batch
into the bottom tray, immediately produces the next batch, tips this in turn into the bottom
tray etc.
• With "stop after each” the PowerStrip places a batch in the movable tray, tips the batch
into the bottom tray and then stops. To continue press f1. This gives you slightly more time
to remove a batch.
• With "stop after every 2nd” the PowerStrip places a batch in the movable tray, tips this into
the bottom tray, places the next batch into the movable tray and then stops. Press f1 to
continue, this procedure restarts from the beginning.
• With “remains at the bottom” the movable tray always remains at the bottom.
• With “remains at the top” the movable tray always remains at the top.

WS 1000 / 1500
Position: See above under "WS 3000, Position".
Kick-off duration: The kick-off cycle needs more or less time depending upon the composition
of the wire. You can set this time in ms.
WS 1000: 300 ms / WS 1500: 40 ms.
Wait after kick-off: If a wire has been ejected it takes a certain amount of time before the WS
1000 / 1500 has returned to the start position. In other words the PowerStrip has to wait before
it can transport the next wire. You can set this time in ms.
WS 1000: 400 ms / WS 1500: 400 ms.
CC 2000
Position: Here you can determine how far from the right cable end the CableCoiler 2000 should
retain the cable.
If the CableCoiler 2000 is activated under "Configuration", further menu point "More_data" (f4)
appears in the footer. If you press f4 , the screen appears with the parameters for operating with
the CableCoiler:
Clamp / no clamp: Here you can determine whether or not the CableCoiler should hold on to
the cable for coiling.
Coiling tight / coiling loose: If the cable is heavy, it does not matter if it is relatively tightly
coiled onto the coiling pins. "Coiling tight" is suitable for this. Glass fibre cable is however highly
sensitive and should only make light contact with the coiling pins. "Coiling loose" is suitable for
this. A range of 0 to 9 is available for both settings.

Pipe fixed at height / Pipe oscillating up to: The Wire guides (pipe) on the CableCoiler guide
the cable to the Coiling pan. There, the cable is wound up by the Coiling pins. Sometimes it is
more convenient if the Coil is wound a little further up on the Coiling pins. Here you can set the
number of millimetres. With "Pipe fixed at height", the cable guides move to the pre-set height
and remain there for coiling. With "Pipe oscillation up to", the cable guides move up and down
within the pre-set dimensions.
Advance per revolution: This point is only active if "Pipe oscillating up to" has been set. This
value determines by how much the pipe shall rise or fall during one revolution of the coiling pan.
Binding position: Let us suppose that you want to bind a 3 m long cable after the half has
been coiled. In this case, enter 1.5 m (1500.0) at "Binding position". The CableCoiler then stops
at this position. You can set the "Binding position" to any point within the length of the cable.
The function is switched off at "0".
Max. insert sped / Max. insert ramp: With "Max. insert speed" and "Max. insert ramp", the
cable is threaded into the CableCoiler by the PowerStrip. Coiling then follows at "Feeding
speed". " Max. insert speed " and "Max. insert ramp" must not be higher than the "Feeding
speed". Higher settings are reduced automatically.
Custom device
If at least one device has been defined under “Configuration”, “Custom devices” you can select
this(these) device(s) here. Once the wire reaches the given position during the processing the
defined cycle is carried out. The “Pick-up” field of “Custom devices” is analysed.

Marking

This is where you determine the positions of the markings on a wire.
CUSTOM WIRE
The Custom wire menu is structured on a modular basis. You can program individual
operations such as, for example, "Steps", "Window", "Window with Slit" and "Area". These
individual operations can then be combined like a puzzle. You can copy an operation and insert
it in the required position on the wire. You can extract existing wire programs from the memory,
modify them in accordance with the new requirements and store them again in the memory
under a new name. The example in figure 33 shows a finished wire and the operations of which
it comprises.

The cursor marks which operation you wish to review or edit. You can move the cursor to the
required position using enter and Õ. So if, for example, you wish to alter the left step, press
enter or Õ until the cursor is positioned below operation 3. The operation lines below the
operations show you the relationship between the individual operations. Each operation has an
upper and a lower operation line. The upper line refers to the operation above it, the lower line
tells you the relationship between this operation and the operation with the cursor. In Figure 36
therefore operation 1 takes place on the right hand side of operations 3 and 2.

With a little practice you will be able to tell from the operation lines at a glance whether the
lengths have been correctly programmed or not. To correct the setting move to the required
operation using the cursor and update the programming (f2).
1. Multiple strip
Open the “Multiple strip” screen by selecting 1. The multiple strip is suitable for stripping
highly adhesive insulation materials. In the graphics at the top of the screen you will see which
dimensions you are entering.

Position
This is where you define how far away from the wire-end the innermost cut is to be applied.
Number of pieces
This is where you define into how many pieces the PowerStrip is to strip the section specified
under “Position”. This is used for example on extremely adhesive insulation materials. The
more adhesive the insulation material the higher the number of pieces.
Blade
This where you can select the blade defined under the “Cutter” screen. If only one blade has
been defined the field is blocked.
Diameter
This is where you enter the wire diameter (shield diameter, internal diameter etc.) for V blades
and radius blades. The menu field @ takes you to a field in which you can optimise this
measurement. The adjustment range for this measurement depends upon the settings in the
Configuration menu. Optimisation is used in particular for custom blades.
Way back
After making an incision in the insulation the blades move back slightly to prevent the wire being
damaged during stripping.
Discard
See “Discard, no discard” Page 59. In multiple stripping the PowerStrip only carries out steps
which do not come into contact with the wire.
More_data
By pressing f4, you open the screen "Multiple strip: process". This function enables you to
determine the stripping speed and the pull off ramp, each within a range from 0 - 9.

Pressing 2. takes you to the "Steps: Strip" screen. The step strip is suited for wires with
several layers, witch can be stripped in steps. In the graphic at the top of the screen you will see
which measurement to enter. You can define 3 levels for the wire-ends in each case.

Extremely flexible insulation materials are sometimes not completely cut to the required
diameter if the blades move back too early. In this event you can enter a “cutting pause” here.
The blades will then rotate at the programmed diameter for slightly longer and the insulation is
cleanly cut.
Default
Resets all process data to the preset values and calculates the stripping parameters. The
stripping parameters are based on the values in the "Rot. Steps: Rot." screen.

This is where you determine at what position the blades are to cut into the insulation piece (see
also programming example "Rot. steps", Page 141).
Set the positions of the strips 0.5 to 1 mm shorter than the positions in screen "Rot.
steps: Rot.". With this setting the blades damage only the slug, if the feeding is a little
inexact.

Diameter
This is where you enter the wire diameter (shield diameter, internal diameter etc.) for V blades
and radius blades. The menu field @ takes you to a field in which you can optimise this
measurement. The adjustment range for this measurement depends upon the settings in the

If you carry out all incisions using the rotary cutter only use the V blades for stripping.
In this event the V blades should only cut into the insulation far enough so that the
slug is cleanly stripped.

4. is for opening the "Area" screen. This is where you program for example consecutive
markings at any positions. You can however also control devices such as for example crimping
presses, a second hot stamping device etc.
Entry method
"Entry method" gives you a choice of three different measurement methods. The @ menu field
activates the required entry method. The other terms in the screen "[Link], Distance, last
Position and Quantity" refer to the respective current entry method.
Distance, last position: This is where you specify how far from the left / right wire end the last
area is to be marked, where the first marking is positioned and the distances between the
markings are given. The quantity of markings is calculated by the PowerStrip.

5. Window
5. is for opening the “Window: strip” screen. This mode is suitable for: longitudinal slitting,
individual strips, slit strips, slit windows, multiple stripping using more than 3 steps. In the
“Window: strip” screen you will find two columns. In the left column you define the parameters
for the left cut, in the right column the parameters for the right cut. Both cuts are measured from
the same wire end. Using the @ menu field beneath the graphic however you can determine
from which wire end the measurements are to be taken.
Window
You can activate and deactivate a column for “Position” using @. On the screen in Figure 43 the
right column is switched to “unused”. In other words, only one cut and one strip will take place
here. At the wire end this would produce a partial or full strip.

This is where you specify the distance from the wire end at which the incisions are to be made.

This is where you can select from the blades defined in the configuration “cutting head” screen.

Paste
This function is for inserting the operation from the temporary file into a required position on the
wire. To do this use press f4 "Paste".

This function is used for cutting out an individual operation on the wire. To do this use enter or
Õ to move the cursor to the required position and then press f5 "Cut". The operation is stored
in a clipboard and can then be reinserted at a different position on the wire.
"Cut" and "Paste" is used in the programming example "Area", page 137.
File
These Functions are identical with "File" in normal wire (page 47). In addition we have here the
function "Convert from normal wire". You find the information for this function on page 136 in the
programming example "Multiple strip".
Feeding
These functions are identical with "Feeding" in normal wire (page 55). But the line "Strip" is
missing. The stripping parameters for Custom wires have to be set individually for each
operation.

Mode
The distance between the blades and the contact point on the right feed belts is 52 mm. If you
now intend to produce a wire on which the length of the remaining insulation is less than 52
mm, the right feed rollers are no longer able to grab and feed this short wire. In this case switch
to “short mode” by pressing @, the right feed rollers open. Remove the exit guide so as not to
hinder the processing. Then program the cutting and stripping processes. Note the sequence of
steps in this context.

The value for “Clamping" (B. feed) is the difference between the jaw opening and the wire
diameter. If you enter for example 1.2 then the jaw opening is 1.2 mm wider than the wire

WIRE LIST
In the Wire list you can process different wires of the same diameter one after the other. The
individual wire programs are loaded from the standard and special wire databases. You can
save the Wire list as a unit and call it up again. To get into the Wire list menu select 3 from the
main menu. Pressing enter moves the cursor to the input fields. Pressing @ changes the
functions.
The production of the wire lists takes place without waste between the wires as the software
precalculates the activation of cable processing devices before the blades (markers, rotary box
etc.).
You can avoid waste if at the beginning of the wire list you select a wire program
without devices. The total length of all wires in this wire program must be greater than
the largest device distance.

The definitions in the footer alter if the cursor is in the wire list. You will find the descriptions on
Page 100 under "Other definitions in the footer".
Production
Assuming you have programmed a Wire list using 5 different wires and now want to process
this list 3 times. You can carry out this procedure in two different ways via the @ menu field in
the second screen line. The first method is called "List first", the second "Wire first". The
following illustration shows you the sequence in which the wires are individually processed.

Stop conditions
When processing a Wire list it sometimes makes sense for you to be able to interrupt the
process. This applies, for example, if you wish to remove the completed wires in a Wire list out
of the collecting container before the next list is started. In this event you would switch to “After
Wire list” using @. You have 5 Stop conditions available:
none No stop condition has been activated. The number of programmed Wire
lists is being processed without a pause.
Before wire The process is interrupted before commencing to process a wire. You can
for example now enter a new text on the wire marker. The next wire will
then be produced containing this new marking.
After wire The process is interrupted after a wire has been processed. You may for
example be working through a Wire list under "Wire first" and want to
remove the first bundle of wires.
Before + after This is the combination of "Before wire" and "After wire".

After Wire list The process is interrupted each time the Wire list is processed. This makes
sense, if the production is set to "List first". You can now take the bundle of
wires out of the collecting container.

Let’s assume you have just produced a required quantity of wires and now want to repeat the
series. To enable you to restart the series you must first reset the “production state” ( f2 = state).

Under "Wires" select the wire programs from the "Normal wire" and "Custom wire" menus in the

Blade (description)
This is where you inform the PowerStrip which type of blade is fitted to which position. Since the
composition of the wires varies to a considerable extent there are also a range of different
cutters:
Standard blades
The Standard blades (V blade) are used for cutting
and stripping. They are suitable for all wires with
normal requirements. Processing using V blades is
very quick. Depending upon the wire however
problems can occur with the stripping since the
blades do not hold the core precisely when cutting.

Radius blades
The radius blades are adapted to the wire cross
section and precisely cover the wire. Radius blades
are suitable for use on wires with hard, thin,
extremely flexible and/or very thick insulation
materials. Radius blades are normally used for
stripping and cutting.

Die blades
The die blades are used for stripping and slitting.
These are special tools which are adapted to both
the wire cross section as well as the external
diameter. During processing these blades
centralise the wire and precisely cover the wire,
preventing the wire from being damaged. They are
suitable for stripping extremely difficult materials
(Teflon, Kynar, Wirerap) and for Figure 53. Die blade
applications with stringent safety requirements. The blade movements in the Z axis are
restricted by the software. It is sometimes necessary to stipulate the blade movements in the Z
axis beyond the limit. In this event define the corresponding die blade as a “special blade".
Special blades
This is where you define all other blade categories. The blade movements are not restricted by
the software here and can be adjusted beyond the standard dimensions in the Z axis.
Calibrate
See "Calibrate cutter head" and "Calibrate blades" in the Service Manual.

Devices

This screen is for activating the peripheral units prefeeder, market units, rotary cutter and a wire
winder or wire stacker. If, for example, you have activated a wire prefeeder but not yet
connected it, the PowerStrip draws your attention to this when starting production. In this case,
follow the text on the screen. In the “Devices” screen press enter to jump to the required
heading and activate or deactivate the functions with @.

Marking unit
If you wish to connect a marking unit program the distance between the PowerStrip and the
marking unit as well as the "dwell time". (On marking with Ink Jet, "dwell time" is not used).

Timeout
The PowerStrip checks to see whether a peripheral unit is operating or not after the machine
starts. If the peripheral unit does not start for whatever reason, then an error message is
displayed. The period before the error message is displayed is known as the "Timeout" and is
adjustable.
Encoder

If you use an encoder this is where you program the distance between the middle of the
encoder and the blades in mm.
Calibration length

Distance
This value denotes the distance between blades and the jam detector. For rollers the figure is
80 mm, for belts 150 mm.
Default
The PowerStrip can use 3 methods for determining the default values. Use @ to select the
required method:
On = The jam detector is always on.
Off = The jam detector is always off.
Auto = The PowerStrip itself decides when to switch the jam detector on or off
WS/CC
This is where you enter the distance in mm between PowerStrip and the relevant activated
peripheral unit.
Combi
HS / PF
During automatic processing the feed on the PowerStrip is interrupted whilst the switch
between Pin 4+5 remains closed. The processing is continued as soon as the switch has
reopened. You can also cut an individual piece to length by initiating a brief pulse to this input.
Prepare Production
This setting effects the printing (resp. the incision with the Rotary box or the treatment with all
of the other devices positioned before the cutting axis) of the non-separated wire part after the
last produced wire. Use this setting when you wish to execute run or single several times in
succession, without waste between the individual wires.
If a wire list is produced, then the prepare production-adjustment affects only the unsevered
part of wire after the last wire program in the wire list.
If you are executing run or single only once, leave the prepare production switched off,
otherwise the part of the wire remaining in the machine will be printed and hence become
waste.

Custom devices
In the "Custom devices" screen you can set individual parameters for additional units. To
access the input fields press enter, to change functions press @.
This device...
An additional unit must be activated so that you can use it under “standard wire” or “custom
wire”. The activation procedure also includes defining the parameters. If you wish to disconnect
an additional unit you can deactivate it here. The parameter settings are retained so you do not
have to re-enter them the next time the unit is used.

Label
This is where you enter the name for a custom device. The procedure for entering the text is
the same as in the “Normal wire”, “save, label” menu Page 52.
Distance
This is here you enter the distance between a device and the blades on the PowerStrip:
• If, for example, you are working with a hot stamping unit then under distance left from blade,
enter the distance between the beginning of the text on the stamping wheels unit and blade.
(See also “Marking", page 148).
• If, for example, you are working with a wire stacker, then under distance right from the blade
enter the distance between the wire stacker input and the blades.

Time
Before: After the system reaches the defined position, a dwell time is inserted. On a wire
winder, for example, the finished wires are stored alternately on two spools. It takes a certain
amount of time to change between the spools. This is where you can set the dwell time.
Signal indicates the time during which a voltage is applied to the output (this is defined below),
for example the pulse time of a marking unit.
After describes the dwell time at the end of the input signal. There are two situations:
• If, at the end of the output signal, there is an input signal, then at the end of this signal the
system waits for the duration of the dwell time.
• If, at the end of the output signal, there is no input signal then the system immediately waits
for the duration of the dwell time.
Wire release
If you activate "Release wire" by pressing @, the right feed rollers open at a time selected by
you. You can choose between “before the signal” or “after the signal”, to do this press @. again
(See diagram on screen).
Function keys
New f2 Produces a new page for a further additional device.
Delete f5 Deletes the current page. If this is the last page then only the contents
are deleted.

System parameters

The system parameters are used to set the primary parameters for the feed belts.
Calibration length
This is where you define the calibration length. The PowerStrip compares the actual wire length
produced with the calibrated length and makes an adjustment if necessary. (See also
“Calibrate" Page 113).
Blade open
This is where you set the speed at which the blades should open after cutting.
Blade change
This is where you set the speed at which the blades should change from the 1. position to the 2.
positions. (See also “stripping” Page 57).
Calibrate
Depending upon the field in which the cursor is positioned, this is where you calibrate the gap
between the left feed belts (“Transport home left"), the gap between the right feed belts
("Transport home right") and the “calibration length”. The calibration length is a fixed, defined
comparative value for the actual length of a cable produced. Proceed as follows to carry out the
calibration:
Length parameters

This is where you set the maximum programmable lengths. It is also where you set from which
length of the remaining insulation the system is to produce in the short mode. Pressing enter
will take you to the desired field.

With certain wires you will also need to remove the left roller on the bottom right feed belt. In the
Service Manual, you find the description how to remove the belts. If they are taken off, the roller
can be easily removed by loosening the hex-screws, which tighten the rollers to the shaft.

This is where you select the dimensions of the test wire to be produced. (See also Key test,
Page 44). Pressing enter will take you to the desired field.
User Interface

field. Pressing @ changes the functions.
Hints
For various processes a hint appears on the screen before the process is carried out. You can
enable/disable this function here. The hints include for example: “Change from short mode to
normal mode", "The slug is not being ejected" etc.
CC 1000/2000 Corr.
When adjusting the configuation values (speeds) between PowerStrip and CC 1000/2000 it can
occur for the CC 1000/2000 not to accept certain values. It suggests new, possible values for
the machine. If the setting is „enquiry“, the user must confirm the temporary adjustment of the
new values. With the setting „automatic“ the values are temporariliy adjusted without
information of the user.
Display contrast
It can happen, that the user is setting a wrong value until the display is completely
dark. In this case press f6 f1 and the "old values" are reset.
Clock
(Key sequence for the “Clock” screen: main menu 4 9):
The “Clock” screen is where you enter the time and the date. Pressing enter will get you into the
input fields. For example, if you wish to set the time to [Link] set this time at [Link] and
wait. At precisely [Link] set f3.
If you only wish to know the current time, press read f4.
Password
The password is described on Page 127.
Print
This is where you print all the parameters from the Configuration menu as well as other
information on the INTDO and COCON cards.

DIAGNOSTICS
The following work in the Chapter entitled “Diagnostics” should only be carried out by
specially trained personnel. (Schleuniger personnel, the user’s trained personnel)
The PowerStrip comes with sophisticated diagnostic software. This enables you to find out the
cause of faults on the PowerStrip. To access the diagnostics menu from the main menu press
5. Use the diagnostic software to check the following functions:
The diagnostics operate dependent upon the current PowerStrip operating mode. There are
two operating modes:
• The PowerStrip operates in normal mode, if the Home cycle has been carried out without
any errors.
• The PowerStrip operates in protected mode, if the Home cycle fails or is interrupted by
pressing stop. In the protected mode no motor movements are permitted except those in
the Diagnostics menu.
In the protected mode the motors can move to the mechanical stops at the press of a
key.
If you wish to check the “Mechanics”, “Outputs” and “Interfaces” functions in the
protected mode you need the “Supervisor” access authorisation . (See "Password",
Page 127).

Wire detector
Lift up the pin of the wire end switch. On the screen the number changes from 1 to 0 if the wire
end switch is functioning.
Jam detector
Cover the optical sensor. On the screen the number changes from 1 to 0 if the sensor is
functioning. (Reflex photo-electric beam to the right of the wire outlet)
Reserved
This input is reserved for other applications.
Wire marker
Press f3 to switch to the next page of the screen. Carry out one cycle on the wire marker by
hand. The number must change from 1 to 0 in the process. Potential defects include:
• end switch on the wire marker defective
• PowerStrip - wire marker connecting cable defective
• IOPCB card defective
Prefeeder
2 inputs are tested for the prefeeder:
Prefeeder: This input shows whether a connected feed device is ready for use. If it is ready for
use the number in the screen is "0". If the prefeeder is blocked then the number is “1”.
Prefeeder (Bridge): This input shows whether a feed device has actually been connected or
not. If the prefeeder has been connected the figure "0" appears in the screen.

Use f2 and f3 to switch to the first and second group of outputs.
Fans
You can test 3 fans. Press enter or Õ, until the desired fan is highlighted on the screen.
Pressing @ switches the fans on and off.

Press enter , until @ is highlighted in black. Press @. The air jet gives a blast. On the screen
the number changes from 1 to 0 and vice versa.
WS 1000 / 1500
Press enter , until @ is highlighted in black. Press @. The WS 1000 / 1500 carries out one
operating cycle.

Wire marker
Press f3 to switch to the second page of the screen. Press enter or Õ, until the wire marker is
highlighted on the screen. By now pressing @ you initiate a wire cycle on the wire marker each
time. Obviously, both units must be properly connected and switched on. Possible defects

• PowerStrip - wire marker connecting cable defective

• Mark the encoder using a pencil line and press f1. Please follow the instructions on the
screen. 1 revolution on the encoder should indicate approx. 1000 pulses.
• Please follow the instructions on the screen for testing the "PrintGo signal" and the "Inkjet"
device.

6. Memory dump
The support of your Customer Service Department may be needed for software errors.
Information on the events leading to the error is extremely helpful in providing an efficient
diagnosis. These events can be recorded on a printout and the error traced using this method.
Proceed as follows:
REMOTE CONTROL
Load the data from the PowerStrip on to your PC or vice versa (Upgrade, Backup and Restore)
via the “PC” connection. You no longer need to change the EPROM for new software. There is
a new download program for each new machine software. For the data transfer good skills in
MS Windows are required.
System requirement
• 1 PC, MS Windows 3.1 or Windows 95
• 1 Download program "[Link]" for upgrade / backup / restore
• 1 RS 232 cable (art. no. 304 025) - (included with machine)

SETUP
• Stand the PowerStrip 9500 on the Schleuniger original table or on another level working
surface.
If you are using the Schleuniger original table, it is not necessary to screw down the
PowerStrip. On another work surface, you have to attach the PowerStrip with the
locking angle pieces supplied. Otherwise, the machine can move about on the work
surface.
The filters in the floor of the machine are freely accessible with the original table, so
that the cooling air can circulate unimpeded. With other bases, you must ensure that
the cooling air can flow freely (danger of over-heating).

• Switch the main switch off, if it is switched on, and unlock the EMERGENCY STOP switch.
• Plug in the power cord. The PowerStrip 9500 is now ready for operation.
Screen Configurations
All the settings in the display are described in "User interface" on Page 115. At this point
however we will only be selecting the screen language and unit of measurement:
• Turn the PowerStrip on and press 4, “Configurations” and 8 “User Interface" in the main
menu.
• Select the required language using @ and press enter.
• Select the required unit of measurement, mm or inch, using @ and exit by pressing f1.

Password
A password enables you to protect the access to data in the PowerStrip. If the password has
been activated then the password is requested when the PowerStrip is switched on. There are
three access levels. All data can be viewed in all three access levels. Changes to settings,
however, depend upon the access level:

OPERATION
Loading wires
• Insert the guide tube and the right wire guide at Ø 3 mm. (On the PowerStrip 9500 RF also
fit the left wire guide between the turret guide and the left feed rollers).
• Undo the milled screw on the turret guide, rotate the turret guide, until the 3 mm diameter
hole is facing upwards. Tighten milled screw.
• Close the safety shield and turn the main switch on. (Depending upon the software version
the screen may remain dark for up to 5 seconds before starting).
• Select the “Standard Wires” menu by pressing 1. Press @, until “mm2 wire” is displayed in
the top right of the menu field, then enter 0.75. Press F3 Default.
• Insert a 0.75 mm2 wire beneath the pin of the wire end switch and through to the middle of
the left feed belts then press load / unload. The wire is pulled in, cut and the slug ejected.
• The PowerStrip is now ready to be programmed.

You have installed the Ø 3 mm guides. This diameter is suitable for a 0,75 mm2 wire.
You will of course also use different guides for different wire diameters and alter the
dimensions in the Standard Wires menu. For the following programming examples
however we will be using a 0,75 mm2 wire. The programming examples describe a
number of typical applications.

When loading a wire make sure that the gap between the feed belts is adjusted to the diameter
of the wire. You must therefore program the wire before you load it into the PowerStrip. The
sequence for the loading procedure is as follows:
• Standard wires: We use a 0.75 mm² wire for all programming examples in the Standard
Wires menu. In this context, all parameters such as diameter, reset, clamping pressure etc.
are set by the PowerStrip itself. All you do is enter the lengths and quantities.
• Custom wires: For the programming examples in the Custom Wires menu we enter all
parameters ourselves or we “alter” a wire from the Standard Wires menu. Because of the
extreme diversity of standard wires there is no guarantee that you will have precisely the
same wires as shown in the programming examples. Depending upon the properties and
dimensions of your wire therefore it is possible that the programming examples will not
proceed smoothly. You will therefore have to adjust the parameters accordingly. The
programming examples for custom wires are more of a theoretical nature and require a
certain amount of experience with the materials.
We recommend that you first carry out the programming examples in the Standard
Wires menu.
If you use the PowerStrip 9500 straight ex-works the configuration will be correctly
programmed and the following programming examples can be smoothly carried out. If
the PowerStrip has already been in use elsewhere you must ensure that the
configurations correspond to those “direct ex-works”. To this end you should contact
an experienced user or your Customer Service Department. If you possess the
corresponding knowledge yourself you can also run through the “Configuration”
chapter (Page 102). This requires a good knowledge of the materials and should only
be carried out by experienced users.

The “Time ms" describes the period during which the rotary blades carry out the incision. This

materials for example need a longer incision time. For our programming example we will leave

using “Default f3”. we will program these processing parameters by hand so you can

The rotary blades have now been programmed for the incision at the required positions. The
stripping of the insulation materials, the screening and the dielectric is carried out using V
blades or radius blades. We therefore also have to specify the positions at which the V blades
are to start the incision. The blade cutting positions are not precisely above the rotary blades so
as to prevent the V blades just cutting into the slug. Incisions in the slugs are not made down to
the next layer in order to ensure that this is not damaged.

The next step is for us to program the stripping parameters. The piece of insulation to be
stripped from the middle of the wire is not removed completely but instead just partly scored. So
we must select the stripping parameters in such a way that the wire is not damaged.
All processing parameters could now be calculated automatically by pressing f3, but
we want to know exactly what happens. Therefore, we program all processing
parameters manually.

and 3 apply to both incisions of course. The scoring by the V-blades is carried out to the middle
of the slit piece of insulation.

Length corrections
The material properties of a wire can produce length deviations. Length deviations also occur if
the wire is not fed correctly. This can happen, for example, if a wire guide is too tight on the wire
or if the wire reel is tangled.
Now enter the correction value in the "% correction” field. To get into the “% correction” field in
the "Normal wire" menu switch @ in the “Length” field (key sequence: main menu 1 3 x enter).
Don’t forget that when making further corrections you must take into account the original
correction. If for example a wire 121 mm in length is now produced, then the new correction
factor is not 99.17 but 108.19. To reset the correction value to 100%, press f4 (Reset_corr.)
under the normal wire menu.
In the menu custom wire, you find the field for corrections in the screen "Custom wire:
name" in the last line.

To ensure that the stamping is carried out at the right location you must enter the distance A
(figure 74) between the two devices, on the PowerStrip. Carry out the programming procedure
as follows:
In this screen we will also program the pulse time. During the pulse time the output on the hot
stamp device connection is activated. The stamping time is set on the hot stamp device. The
PowerStrip is stopped during the stamping time via the input of this connection.
Enter the pulse time (e.g. 200 ms) and return to the main enter 200 enter f1 f1
menu.
The PowerStrip is now ready for the hot stamp process. The procedure for specifying the
stamping positions is explained with the help of the programming example below.

Continuous marking
If you enter for example 60 mm under “Continuous” then marking will be carried out every 60
mm. The first marking is carried out 60 mm from the right wire end. If you have entered a
position on the right then the continuous marking will be carried out measured from this position.
Marking-free zone
To prevent continuous marking from extending over the left marking a marking-free zone is
incorporated. The size of the marking-free zone can be adjusted with “distance left” in the
“Marking” screen. The marking process is suppressed within this zone.

To ensure that the marking is carried out at the correct position you must enter the Distance A
(Figure 77) between the two devices, on the PowerStrip. Carry out the programming from the
main menu as follows:
Activate the Ink Jet device on the PowerStrip. Press the @ key 4 3 enter (@)
repeatedly until “Ink jet” appears on the screen.

Text
The keys f1 to f5 and f+ are used for keying in the letters as well as commas, # etc. The text
column has space for a total of 30 characters. (The precise procedure for inserting text is
described in the programming example below). The @ key opens a dialog box. This is where
you can call up pre-programmed data and insert it into the text column, for example the date
and time. The explanation of the 6 terms is shown below:
• If you select "1. Time " then 1. appears in the @ text column. The current time, for example
[Link], will be printed at this position on the wire.
• If you select "2. Date", 2. appears in the @ text column. The current date, for example
31.12.1998 or 12.31.1998, will be printed at this position on the wire.
• If you select “3. Total produced”, 3. appears in the @ text column. The total number of wires
produced so far using the current wire program is printed at this position on the wire. “Single
wires” are not counted and instead of a figure, ppppp.... is printed on the wire.
• If you select “4. Batch produced”, 4. appears in the @ text column. The wires are printed with
the batch number of the current wire program. For example if you produce 50 wires in 5
batches then the 10 wires of the first batch are printed with a “1”, the 10 wires of the second
batch with a "2" etc.
• If you select “5. Counter”, 5. appears in the @ text column. This is where you define the
position at which the wire is to be marked with consecutive numbers. (See also the next
section “Start value, Counter”)
• If you select “6. Select bold”, 6. appears in the @ text column. This is where you can select
the “bold on/off” function. This is a practical help if for example you wish to highlight a
number of characters within a text. Here’s an example: you want to print the following
marking: 123HPGK234. The bolt function has been switched “off”. Before the H select @ 6.
(Select bold) and also after the K.
• If you select „7. Wire Name, @7 appears in the text bar. The name of the wire is printed on
the wire in this place.
Mirror
This function enables you to mirror a text in original horizontal

In order to position a marking in the centre of the wire enter half the wire length (on
standard wires only) at “right” or “left”.
Since short-mode wires are processed in a special way it may happen that the
positions you have entered do not match the markings. The reason for this is that
part of the insulation is moved during the stripping process. In this case you must
alter the positions so that the marking is applied in the required position.

? The PowerStrip 9500 is also capable of processing certain cables and wires outside this
range. Conversely, in some extreme cases within this size range, some wire and cable types
may be difficult or impossible to process. In case of doubt, allow us to process some samples
for your intended application.
