A FEW "DON'TS"
First, before starting, a few "don'ts."
( 1 ) Don't attempt to inlet a stock without
the proper tools. These are shown in the
first photograph. Proper tools make the job
easy . Without them, you may ruin the
stock .
( 2 ) Don't sand or remove any outside
wood until all hand fitting is complete. The
barreled- action should be perfectly fitted
and in place before shaping.
( 3 ) Don't work with dull tools. The FORCE STOCK AND ACTION
sharper, the better ! together firmly, so that metal
is tight against stock . Then
tighten rear tang screw with
a long handled screwdriver.

around outside? When you fin-
ish the stock, you'll want to
work this down flush with the
metal. Bishop allows this extra SHAPING is a matter of personal preference. You
wood on the outside so you can use a plane on the cheekpiece and the wood rasp
can shape your stock to any on curved surfaces. Follow with sanding, then finish
desired contours. with a good oil like G- B LinSpeed Oil for a water -
proof, hand rubbed finish.
