(3,400 miles), primarily designed for nuclear weapons
delivery (delivering one or more thermonuclear
warheads).

1963.
Two-stage, liquid-fueled rocket engines. The first stage
used an LR-87 engine, and the second stage used an
LR91 engine.
Inertial guidance system: by IBM (ASC-15).

The Titan II was the largest ICBM ever September 1988)
deployed by the United States.
It was launched from underground silos,
which helped to protect it from attack.
The Titan II was involved in one of the
worst accidents in the history of the U.S.
nuclear program. In 1980, a missile
exploded in its silo at Titan Base in
Arkansas. The explosion killed one Air
Force officer and injured several others.
After the Titan II was retired from
An LGM-25C Titan intercontinental
service, the silos that housed the ballistic missile in silo, ready to
missiles were destroyed. However, launch
some of the launch facilities have been
converted into museums.

The Titan II GLV was a two-stage liquid-fuel rocket, using a hypergolic propellant combination of Aerozine 50 fuel
and nitrogen tetroxide oxidizer. The first stage was powered by an LR87 engine (with two combustion chambers
and nozzles, fed by separate sets of turbomachinery), and the second stage was propelled by an LR-91 engine.
