4. RESPONSIBILITY:
Station Manager, Head of operation, Head of Maintenance, Maintenance Engineer , Shift In charge
5. OHS RISK:
Electrical Burn
Cut.
Electrocution
6. SPECIAL SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS:
1. Ensure the workmen worn required PPE’s
2. Visitor should not move near the work area.
3. Keep the area clean and free from obstruction.
4. Use proper size gloves
5. Don’t enter barricading area.
6. Keep hands and fingers away from breaker’s internal parts while the breaker contacts are
closed or the closing springs are charged. The breaker contacts may open or the closing
springs discharge causing crushing injury. Before working on the breaker discharge the
charged springs by carrying out one close and trip operation.
7. Warning signs shall be placed at the switchboard prior to commencing maintenance.
8. HT breaker shall be switched OFF, racked out and positioned on the trolley for carrying out the
maintenance.
SPECIAL SAFTEY PPE’s:
1. Safety helmet
2. Safety shoes
3. Electric hand gloves
4. Safety goggles
5. Electric Hand Gloves.
6. Rubber Mats
7. Dust Mask
Environmental Protection:
The waste cardboards and packing materials generated shall be stored in
the nearby dust bins and disposed as per waste management plan.
The empty aerosol cans shall be disposed as per the waste management
plan.
The used cotton wastes shall be stored in the nearby dust bins and shall
be sent for incineration.
Generated wastes such as used cables / insulation material / spares, etc.
are to be collected and disposed as per waste management plan.

7.1 BUSBAR & CABLE CHAMBER
Ensure panels are isolated and discharged before starting the job.
Before starting the job, measure the insulation resistance of incoming cable and bus separately.
Check the insulation of all outgoing feeder cables and wiring.
Check the bus bar’s support insulators for crack, deformation, color change, strains and foreign
materials.
Any insulation maintenance primarily consists of keeping all insulating surfaces clean. Wiping off
insulating surfaces with a dry lint free cloth or dry paper towel can do this. Use a soft dry
cloth to clean the accumulated dust or moisture on epoxy resin post insulators and renew if
necessary.
In case there is any tightly adhering dirt that will not come off by wiping, it can be removed with
mild solvent or distilled water. But be sure that the surfaces are dry before placing them in
service.
Visually check the contacts and clean any dust deposits. If contact surfaces are rough, dress with
fine emery paper. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly if necessary.
Check whether the mounting screws and nuts are tight and the contacts are properly aligned.
Check the tightness of the insulators. Don’t apply more stress on the insulators.(They may crack)
Wherever accessible, inspect all bus bar and bus bar chambers for signs of wear or damage.
Clean as necessary, using plate polish. Check bus bar connecting bolts for tightness.
Check all wiring and terminations for signs of discoloration due to heat, burnt or exposed
conductors and loose connections.
Check control and power cabling terminations for signs of discoloration due to heat burnt or
exposed conductors and loose connections.
Check that air vents are not blocked.
Check the CTs for any abnormality.
Ensure the CTs secondary neutrals are securely earthed.
Measure the IR and continuity of anti-condensation (space) heater. Space heater resistance shall
be within the limit as specified by the vendor.
Check earth connections for secure & tightness.
After completion of the job, measure the insulation of the bus bar and out-going cables of each
panel with 2500V megger and record the values.
7.2 BREAKER & METERING COMPARTMENT
Check the operation of all switches and visually check the internals of the
switch such as fuses, terminals, etc.
Check that fuse connections are tight and the fuses are of the correct rating.
Renew fuse as appropriate.
Check all control fuses of CTs & Pts. Examine fuse holder for over heating &
fuses are of correct rating.
Clean any accumulated dust from the panel and check the general structure
to ensure that it is sealed correctly.
Check that all circuit labels are properly attached to their correct panels.
Inspect /test all parts of the draw out mechanism, lubricate sparingly with oil
where required and check mechanism for smooth operation.
Check the safety shutter mechanism & inspect/ test for smooth operation &
correct functioning.
Check all breaker wiring for any signs of overheating or damage. Ensure all
connections are tight & secure.
Check the Line & Bus -PTs for any abnormality.

Ensure the Line & Bus -PTs secondary neutrals are securely earthed.
Check / clean / test all other auxiliary devices (relay, contacts & control
transformer, etc.).
Check the breaker & panel mounted limit switches.
Inspect / clean earth and auxiliary contacts. Check all connections tight and
secure.
Measure Insulation Resistance of main & control circuit.
Ensure all indicator flags & lamps functioning correctly.
Check, clean door lubricates all hinges and locks.
Operate the protective devices manually and check for breaker tripping.
