Overdrive Digital library collections serve more readers at lower cost. OverDrive annually reports on the growth of circulation as public libraries enable more readers to discover and borrow digital books from their lending collections. During the 12 months from March 2020 through February 2021 this growth trend continued, as digital circulation surged when libraries closed their doors due to COVID-19. To understand the impact of this growth on library budgets, OverDrive reported that record-breaking patron demand combined with high librarian engagement resulted in decreased overall cost per checkout, enabling more readers to be served at a lower cost. Boston Public Library. Boston Public Schools and Boston Public Library collaborate to increase student access to library resources. Boston Public Schools (BPS) and Boston Public Library (BPL) today announced a new Student ID Project initiative, which allows students to use their current BPS ID cards to obtain a pre-registered BPL library card, granting them access to all of the services offered by BPL at its 26 locations. BPL is also working with Boston Compact and METCO to offer participation in this program to all other schools serving Boston students, including public charter, parochial and METCO. National Institute of Informatics Renewal of Academic Information System After 36 Years New Catalog Information Service Corresponding to Digital Resources to Be Introduced from 2022. National Institute of Informatics (NII; Director General: Dr. KITSUREGAWA Masaru, Tokyo, Japan) has begun reconstruction of NACSIS-CAT/ILL, a catalog information service used by more than 1,300 institutions, mainly university libraries. Kinokuniya Company. NII and Kinokuniya to build a New NACSIS-CAT/ILL System for Digitization of Academic Resources and Provision of World Class Service. Kinokuniya Company was appointed to undertake the project commissioned by National Institute of Informatics Provision of Catalog Information Service and Electronic Resource Management System. NACSIS-CAT/ILL, the catalog information service operated by NII, is currently used by more than 1,300 institutions, mainly university libraries, as a union catalog database comprehensively covering Japanese academic resources. Through the reconstruction and enhancement of NACSIS-CAT/ILL by the cooperation of domestic and international system vendors, Kinokuniya contributes to establishing the academic research infrastructure in Japan which willadvance the digitization of academic resources and the provision of world class service. Ex Libris Japan’s National Institute of Informatics paves the way for Japanese libraries of the future with Ex Libris Alma services. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform has been selected by the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan, an interuniversity institute that promotes research in information-related areas. The decision was based on strategies defined in the 2019 Vision on Future Scholarly Information Systems, prepared by Japan's Future Scholarly Information Systems Committee under the auspices of the Council for Promoting Collaboration between University Libraries and the National Institute of Informatics. OCLC OCLC to provide new national cataloging platform for libraries in Japan. The National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan has selected OCLC to replace NII's current library metadata infrastructure. OCLC will provide a cataloging environment for more than 1,300 libraries in Japan with a union catalog that replaces the existing system, NACSIS-CAT/ILL.The NACSIS-CAT/ILL, launched in 1985, has been widely used among Japanese university libraries and other institutions, bringing together 13 million bibliographic records and 147 million holdings records. New York Public Library The New York Public Library receives $12.5 million grant From Arcadia Fund for open access project. The New York Public Library has received a $12.5 million grant from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Library Trustee Peter Baldwin, towards a significant investment in the Library's digital transformation. The grant will support the Library's efforts to improve patrons' ability to discover, request, and access in digital format, a copy of almost any book through its online platform. Auto-Graphics, Inc. AGent Information Software (AIFS) Publishes 2021 First Quarter Financials. AGent Information Software, the parent company of Auto-Graphics, Inc. (A-G), released first quarter 2021 financials. AIFS reported a net income of $120,398, a $40,000 increase from the same period in 2020. Continued growth of the recurring revenue base resulted in an increase from 2020 to $1,290,874. This growth is entirely in the company's library division, as it has terminated their publishing business to focus on their library sector. AIFS reported EPS of $0.03 on weighted average shares outstanding of 4,484,577. Cash flow continued to be strong into the first quarter of 2021. [Full Announcement].

Ex Libris Ex Libris Rapido platform goes live with first four customers. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that the first four implementations of the Rapido resource sharing platform have now gone live. The development of the Rapido platform began in late 2019, when Ex Libris teamed up with a group of early adopters and development partners in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Clarivate Clarivate announces proposed offerings of Ordinary Shares and Convertible Preferred Shares. Clarivate announced that it has commenced concurrent proposed offerings of $750 million of ordinary shares, alongside which certain existing shareholders intend to offer $250 million of ordinary shares (the "Ordinary Share Offering"), and $1.25 billion of Series A Mandatory Convertible preferred shares. Neither the completion of the Ordinary Share Offering nor the Convertible Preferred Share Offering is contingent upon completion of the other. The Offerings are both subject to market and other conditions, and there can be no assurance as to whether or when either Offering may be completed, if at all, or as to the actual size or terms of either Offering. Clarivate intends to use the net proceeds from the Offerings to finance a portion of the purchase price for its pending acquisition of ProQuest, announced on May 17, 2021. None of the Offerings is conditioned on consummation of the ProQuest acquisition. This release centers around changes to the agents module of ArchivesSpace to make it more standards-compliant with EAC-CPF and the MARCXML format for authority data, enabling deeper and richer description of people, families, and corporate entities, their relationships to each other and their relationships to materials held outside ArchivesSpace. This work is the result of a community specification involving the participation of many users across the ArchivesSpace community, mostly notably Cory Nimer, Sue Luftschein, and Brad Westbrook. Through this work new fields and sub-records have been added to the agents schema, and staff and public interface views, imports, exports, and auxiliary functionality like agent merging have all been updated. There is also a new Light mode, which provides the option for users to continue to work with agent records in the staff interface in a pared down view that is similar to that of ArchivesSpace versions prior to this one.
