HORNS is a fantasy horror about a young man who is suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Violence

Scenes of strong violence include shootings, stabbings, heavy beatings, and a person being set on fire. There are blood spurts and sight of injuries. There are also sequences in which people are attacked by snakes.

In one scene, a young woman is raped and killed by a man. The rape features limited detail and the rape is presented in an aversive manner.

Injury detail

A teenage boy's hand is seen injured and heavily bloodied after handling a firework.

Sex

There are some sex scenes which include thrusting and nudity. There are also strong verbal sex references, some of which are comic.

Nudity

In one scene, a young boy looks at a porn magazine featuring photos of naked women; however there is no strong detail. In another scene, a man is supernaturally compelled to expose his penis in a bar.

Language

Frequent strong language ('f**k' and 'motherf**ker'), as well as various uses of milder bad language ('shit', 'bullshit’, ‘slut', 'ass', 'piss', 'dick', 'goddamn’, ‘God', 'Jesus Christ’, ‘hell') and unendorsed discriminatory language.

Drugs

There is a prolonged scene in which a male drug abuser is compelled to ingest a variety of drugs. The drug use results in horrifying hallucinations and the man is subsequently hospitalised.

Precuts information

During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive an 18 certificate but that their preferred 15 classification could be achieved by making cuts to reduce a scene of sexual violence and to reduce a very strong gory image. When the film was submitted for formal classification, edits had been made and the film was classified 15.
