
The Bears said goodbye to another veteran free agent Thursday when they announced they will not match the three-year, $3.9 million offer the Green Bay Packers tendered to linebacker Ron Cox last week.
Cox, 28, was the Bears' second-round draft pick in 1990 (No. 33 overall) and recorded 245 tackles in six seasons, including a career-high 84 (46 solo) last season. Cox's stint with the team effectively ended when the Bears beat out the Packers among other teams and signed free-agent linebacker Bryan Cox to a four-year, $13.2 million deal in February.
Ron Cox is the fifth Bears player to leave via free agency this offseason, joining Jay Leeuwenburg (Indianapolis), Jeff Graham (New York Jets), Troy Auzenne (Indianapolis) and Ervin Collier (Washington) in a growing rank of ex-Bears. …
