The hotel where Carol’s friend works receives a suicide note from a “Louise”, who doesn’t seem to have any connection to the hotel. Worried by the unpleasant message, Carol’s friend asks her to try to determine its origin. Carol’s investigations lead to a woman in her 40s, who has recently supposedly committed suicide by jumping off a cliff. In speaking to her friends and relatives, retracing her steps from her final days, Carol gets the impression of a creative, vivacious woman who prepared games for her boyfriend – not of a person who was about to take her own life.
