Six men and women are recognized for their volunteer service in the East Bay

Diablo Magazine December 2016

Diablo magazine announces six honorees for the 2016 Threads of Hope Awards. Joseph Hui of Adopt A Family Bikes, Stephen Vogt of School of Imagination, Fran and Vic Smith of Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, and Bryan Ware of The Crayon Initiative will be recognized for their outstanding volunteer work. Sister Ann Weltz of the Bay Area Crisis Nursery will be recognized with the 2016 Steven J. Rivera Visionary Award for her 35 years of service at the Bay Area Crisis Nursery. All of this year’s honorees will be recognized for their untiring service to the East Bay community at an awards reception on Tuesday, December 6 at the Orinda Theatre. In addition to the awards event, the honorees and their organizations are featured in the December issue of Diablo magazine.

For the past 21 years, Diablo readers submit nominations of exceptional volunteers who give their time to charitable causes in the East Bay. A panel of judges, representing businesses and philanthropic organizations, chose the honorees based on each nominee’s length of service, hands-on involvement, and impact on the community.

The 2016 panel of judges includes: Jessica Aguirre, weeknight co-anchor of NBC Bay Area News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Gaby Ghorbani, founder and director of Pledge to Humanity; Mark Flower, senior vice president and regional managing director for Wells Fargo Private Bank; Christine Wente, board president of the Wente Foundation; and Carole Wynstra, former president of the Walnut Creek Library Foundation.
