The Liberation War Museum is located in the centre of Dhaka city and was inaugurated on March 22, 1996.  It is registered as a Society with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Bangladesh and also with the NGO Bureau of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.  Over the last 13 years the museum has received 428, 629 visitors.  There are 6 galleries which display the protracted struggle of the people of Bangladesh for establishing their identity as a nation under the British regime as well as their struggle for democracy, political and economic emancipation from 1947 and finally their armed struggle during the 9 month long War of Liberation in 1971.

  • New Museum Site: Plot no. F 11A and F 11B , Agargaon, Dhaka.  Construction is expected to start in December, 2010.
  • Killing Field Site:  Jalladkhana, Mirpur Sector 10, Dhaka, contact Nasiruddin Ahmed (ph. no. 01719-315704)
  • Killing field site under development: The killing field site in the premises of the Water Development Board, Barisal, where an estimated 1,500 people were shot, is under development with the support of the Barisal City Corporation.

Museum Hours

Museum is open on all weekdays except Sunday between 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

In winter it is open between 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
