Robert College--the oldest American school outside of the U.S.--educates highly selective Turkish students in the middle and high school years. In terms of its perception as a premier private secondary school in the country, it holds a comparable position to Eton in England and to Exeter or Andover in the U.S. Large numbers of its graduates have made significant contributions in many areas of Turkish culture, government, academics, science/engineering, and business.

The school is both bi-lingual and bi-cultural: English is the language of instruction for Mathematics and Science as well as English language and literature courses. Physical Education, Computer Science, and some music and art courses are also taught in English. For a brief factual summary on the school in general, please click on FACT SHEET. For even more detailed information on the school and the experience of living in Turkey, please click on Teaching at Robert College in Istanbul.

Teaching at Robert College is always a challenging, interesting experience--given the incredible strength of its students in terms of their ability, their creativity, and their motivation to learn. (They are also in general very friendly, open, and fun students to be with.) Education is widely recognized as the ONLY real key to success. Teachers rarely complain of being bored at Robert College! The flip side, however, means that teachers too must be bright, creative, hard-working--and, most of all, confident in both their content areas and pedagogical skills. For much more information on our expectations of teachers, candidates should click on Expectations of Faculty Members at Robert College.

Please note: All social studies/history courses are taught ONLY in Turkish by Turkish nationals--following the regulations of the Turkish Ministry of Education. Also guidance/counseling professionals are bi-lingual Turks. We do not have positions in business education, home economics, industrial arts, or special education.

As of January 1999, we have several job openings. Please click on the link in the box at the top of this page. We invite qualified candidates for other subject areas taught in English to send us a letter of interest and their CVs.

Most importantly, applicants for all positions should be aware of the formal requirements for approval to teach in Turkey. Please click on Qualifications.

For information on wages and benefits, please click on Summary of Faculty Compensation.

The best way to apply for any positions is to send by either e-mail (text-only please) or fax: a short letter spelling out your interest and qualifications and a CV. Recommendations can be sent by air mail, if necessary, but this method can take up to two weeks--and sometimes longer.
