Deborah Liebling, senior VP of original programming and development at Comedy Central, has ankled her position after six years with the laffer net.
Insiders said Liebling likely will be replaced, but it is not clear whether the job would be filled out of New York or Los Angeles. Liebling and much of her team are based on the West Coast, while the cable network’s headquarters is in Gotham.
“I am truly proud and pleased about how we successfully built this brand,” Liebling told Daily Variety. “When I came here, we were in no more than 25 million homes. I was fortunate to discover ‘South Park’ in my second week here. And that obviously sent us on our way.”

In addition to guiding the development and production of such branding hits for Comedy Central as “South Park,” Liebling also was behind “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” “The Man Show” and “Primetime Glick,” among others.
“We are grateful for her contribution to Comedy Central’s success and wish her well in the future,” Bill Hilary, the net’s exec VP-general manager, said in a statement announcing Liebling’s departure.
Liebling has not yet determined what her next move will be.
Before joining Comedy Central in 1996, Liebling was West Coast exec in charge of production for Nickelodeon. She also had gigs at FX and MTV and worked as an independent producer. Her production credits include several sketch-comedy series for NBC and HBO and specs for ABC and VH1. She’s a two-time CableAce Award winner and has twice been nominated for an Emmy Award.
Comedy Central now is available in 79 million homes.
