“Sex and the City” alum James Remar is trading cosmopolitans for mai tais, joining the cast of Fox’s “North Shore.”

The thesp, who played Samantha’s ex, Richard Wright, on “Sex,” has signed on to play hotel boss Vincent on the 20th Century Fox TV drama.

In other casting news, Josh Randall (“Ed”) has been cast in CBS’ untitled Staley/Long pilot, while Aron Kader has been added to NBC’s sitcom pilot “Beverly Hills SUV.”

Remar replaces Rob Estes, who departed the show earlier this month (Daily Variety, April 15) as part of a cast restructuring that also brought in new star Brooke Burns.

Besides “Sex and the City,” Remar’s resume includes current feature “The Girl Next Door” and last year’s “2 Fast 2 Furious.” Remar’s other TV credits include “Total Security” and guest stints on “Without a Trace” and “The X-Files.”

“North Shore” revolves around the staff at an exclusive Oahu resort. Series, which will air Mondays at 8 p.m. beginning June 14, comes from exec producers Chris Brancato, Bert Salke, Peter Elkoff, Peyton Reed and Kevin Falls.

Randall will star in the Staley/Long project opposite stars Ricki Lake and Kirstie Alley. He’ll play a police officer who falls in love with Lake’s character.

Randall is best known for his role as Dr. Mike Burton on “Ed.” Other credits include the telepic “Secret Santa” and a guest role on “Angel.”

Rob Long and Dan Staley are behind the Paramount Network TV pilot, which revolves around a single young mother (Lake) who runs a bar with her mother (Alley).

Then there’s Kader, who has joined the cast of “SUV.”

Peacock comedy, set at an upscale Beverly Hills auto dealer, comes from NBC Studios and Larry Wilmore. Kader’s other credits include guest roles on “The Shield” and “The Bernie Mac Show.”

Also, Kym Whitley (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) has been added to the cast of ABC’s J.J. Abrams pilot “The Catch,” which comes from Touchstone TV. She’ll play Honey in the project.
