Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman shares another good news to her constituents: The town of Orani will now have its own anti-discrimination ordinance.
On her Facebook account, the politiko thanked the town of Orani “for embracing diversity and inclusivity” and “for fighting for freedom, acceptance, and human rights.”
The Sangguniang Bayan of Orani has passed an ordinance prohibiting discrimination in the municipality on the basis of disability, age, civil status, health status, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE).
“Under the said Orani ordinance, ‘everyone should respect the women, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, senior citizens, and people with disability or one gets P1,000 fine or 30-day imprisonment for the first offense. On second offense, the violator shall be penalized with a fine of P1,500 or imprisonment of 30 days or both, at the discretion of the court; for the third offense, P2,500 or imprisonment of 30 days,'” said Roman, quoting the recently passed ordinance.
“This ordinance is in congruence with our Constitution which provides that the State values the dignity of every human being and guarantees full respect for human rights,” she added.
