ESPN has agreed a deal with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for exclusive UK broadcast rights to next month's inaugural Caribbean T20 Tournament.

The event, which runs from July 22 to July 31, features eight West Indian Twenty20 teams, including Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and the Windward Islands, competing to win the Caribbean T20 title.

The format will involve two groups of four teams, with the top two sides going forward to the semi-finals. Opening rounds will be played in Barbados between July 22 and July 25, with the latter stages shifting to Trinidad from July 28.

All matches will be played between 9pm and 1am, with the exception of July 25 when the start time will be 7pm.

The Caribbean T20 winner will move a step closer towards representing the West Indies at the Airtel Champions League, which is due to go ahead in South Africa in September.

WICB chief executive Dr. Ernest Hilaire said that the ESPN deal comes at a "very exciting time for cricket in the West Indies".

"We just staged the hugely successful ICC World T20 Tournament and now we have the inaugural Caribbean T20 Tournament," he said.

"We expect to see superb action on the field from the region's best players, and great excitement off the field from the lovely Caribbean people in the stands.

"Cricket fans all across the world have fallen in love with the short version of the game and we know they will be thrilled with what they see during the Caribbean T20."

In addition to the TV coverage, fans will be able to watch the matches and access additional tournament information on ESPN's CricInfo website.

ESPN EMEA vice president of TV channels Jeroen Oerlemans said: "We continue to expand our cricket offering in the UK and we're delighted to add the West Indies Cricket Board Caribbean T20 cricket tournament to our summer schedule.

"Through ESPNCricinfo.com and other media around the world, ESPN has a long association with cricket that we will enhance in the UK."
