The Philippines has many languages, and ten of the most spoken ones are
Tagalog, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Bikol, Waray, Kapampangan,
Pangasinan, Maguindanao, and Tausug. Tagalog is the base of Filipino, the
national language, and is spoken in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Cebuano, also called Bisaya, is widely spoken in Central Visayas, including
Cebu and Bohol, and parts of Mindanao. Hiligaynon, also known as Ilonggo, is
common in Western Visayas, especially in Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
Ilocano is mainly spoken in Northern Luzon, particularly in the Ilocos Region,
while Bikol is found in the Bicol Region and has several dialects. Waray is
used in Eastern Visayas, especially in Samar and Leyte. Kapampangan is
native to Pampanga province and parts of Central Luzon. Pangasinan is
spoken in the province of Pangasinan in Luzon. Maguindanao is used by the
Maguindanao people in Mindanao, and Tausug is spoken in the Sulu
Archipelago and some parts of Mindanao. These languages reflect the
Philippines' rich cultural and regional diversity.
