You may have to go to an interview to discuss your record and give reasons why your licence should not
be suspended. You may also have to complete a driver re-examination. If you fail this test, your licence
can be cancelled. If you fail to attend an interview, or fail to give good reasons for

keeping your licence, your licence may be suspended.

15 points

Your licence will be suspended for 30 days from the date you hand over your licence to the Ministry

of Transportation. You can lose your licence for up to two years if you fail to surrender it. After the

suspension, the number of points on your driver's record will be reduced to seven. Any extra points

could again bring you to the interview level. If you reach 15 points again, your licence will be suspended
for six months.

Here are the demerit points for driving offences.

Lesson

Ontario Driver's License

To be able to drive a car in Ontario, you must be at least 16 years of age.

There are various stages that you need to move through to get your license. This process is called a
graduated licensing system.

Read through this information about getting a "G" driver's license C. The "G" driver's license allows you
to drive a car, van or small truck in Ontario.
Driving Responsibly

Once you have your license, it is important to drive responsibly and care for your vehicle.

Failing to drive responsibly can have significant consequences for you - and not just financially. Traffic
violations are recorded on your permanent record and a system of demerit points are used to track the
number and seriousness of those infractions. The interactive below explains how many points are
accumulated for each driving offense.
