Question:
Discuss a few righteous deeds with references from the Holy Quran or Hadith,
and their practical benefits in our society.
Answer:
Righteous deeds, as highlighted in the Holy Quran and Hadith, are acts that align with Islamic
teachings and promote moral and ethical conduct. These deeds not only enhance one's
spirituality but also have profound practical benefits for society. Here are a few righteous deeds
with their references and practical benefits:

1. Charity (Sadaqah):
Charity is the voluntary act of giving help, typically in the form of money, goods, or time, to
those in need. It is a fundamental practice in many religions and cultures, aimed at promoting
social welfare and reducing poverty.

"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that
sprouts into seven ears; in every ear there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies for whom
He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:261)

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Charity does not decrease wealth." (Sahih Muslim)

Practical Benefits:

 Social Welfare: Charity helps alleviate poverty and supports the less fortunate,
promoting social justice and equity.

 Community Cohesion: Acts of charity foster a sense of community and mutual support,
reducing social tensions and promoting harmony.

 Economic Stability: By redistributing wealth, charity can stimulate economic activity and
reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.

2. Honoring Parents:
Honoring parents involves showing them love, respect, and care, especially as they age. It is a
key principle in many cultures and religions, emphasizing gratitude and reverence for one's
parents.

"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment.
Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as],
'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." (Surah Al-Isra, 17:23)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Paradise lies under the feet of the mother." (Sunan An-
Nasa’i)

Practical Benefits:

 Family Stability: Respect and care for parents strengthen family bonds and ensure
emotional support within the family.

 Social Morality: Honoring parents promotes values of respect, patience, and

compassion in society.

 Generational Continuity: By caring for elders, younger generations learn to value and
uphold family traditions and wisdom.

3. Truthfulness:
Truthfulness is the quality of being honest and transparent in one's words and actions. It fosters
trust and integrity, forming the foundation for strong, reliable relationships.

"O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are truthful." (Surah At-Tawbah,
9:119)

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness
leads to Paradise. A man continues to tell the truth until he is written down with Allah as a
truthful person." (Sahih Bukhari)

Practical Benefits:

 Trust Building: Truthfulness fosters trust in relationships, whether personal,

professional, or social.

 Integrity: A truthful society values honesty, reducing corruption and deceit.

 Social Cohesion: When truthfulness is upheld, it enhances transparency and

accountability, leading to a more cohesive and fair society.

4. Maintaining Family Ties (Silat ar-Rahim):

Maintaining family ties involves nurturing relationships with relatives through regular
communication, support, and respect. It strengthens family bonds, fostering unity and a sense
of belonging.

"And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over
you, an Observer." (Surah An-Nisa, 4:1)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should
maintain good relations with his kindred." (Sahih Bukhari)

Practical Benefits:

 Social Support: Strong family ties provide a robust support network, offering emotional,
financial, and practical assistance.

 Cultural Continuity: Family bonds help preserve cultural and religious values, passing
them from one generation to the next.

 Mental Health: Positive family relationships contribute to better mental health and
well-being, reducing stress and loneliness.

5. Justice and Fairness:

Justice and fairness involve making impartial decisions and treating others equitably, ensuring
that everyone receives their due rights. These principles are essential for maintaining social
order and trust within a community.

"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it
be against yourselves or parents and relatives." (Surah An-Nisa, 4:135)

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The just will be seated upon pulpits of light." (Sahih
Muslim)

Practical Benefits:

 Rule of Law: Upholding justice ensures that laws are applied fairly, maintaining social
order and protecting rights.

 Conflict Resolution: Fairness in dealings reduces conflicts and promotes peaceful

resolutions.

 Economic Prosperity: A just society attracts investment and economic growth, as

fairness and transparency build confidence in institutions.

These righteous deeds, as emphasized in Islamic teachings, not only fulfill spiritual obligations
but also contribute significantly to the betterment and stability of society.
