1. A circular sewer is of 1.52 m diameter is laid on a slope of 0.00036 and n is 0.013.

Determine the velocity

and depth of flow when the minimum flow of 17 m3/min occurs.
2. Design a gravity flow trunk circular sanitary sewer for the area in the accompanying figure. The trunk sewer
is laid from point 1 to 5. Assume the following data apply. Q = 0.005m3/s is average flow from u/s area.

iv) Assume park usage will be 100 person/day

v) Neglect allowance for peak infiltration and inflow rate

Vii) For the hydraulic design use the Manning equation with an n value of 0.013

Viii)Use minimum velocity of 0.65m/s in all flow conditions and assume the maximum and
minimum sewage flow as 200% & 70% of the average sewage flow, respectively.

ix) Take any assumption whenever necessary

3. A separate sewerage system has to be designed for a town with a rainfall frequency of 2 years. This
town is already provided with adequate water supply from water works at per-capita rate of
300l/capita/day. Compute the maximum storm drainage discharge for which the storm water drains
of a pocket draining an area of 20 ha will be designed. Also compute the peak design discharge for
which the sewers of this pocket will be designed. Take runoff coefficient value as =0.60, assume
the concentration time as 20 min. The population of the pocket discharging sewage is 15,000.

4. Owing to urban development subsequent to the installation of a storm water drainage system, a
length of road on the outskirts of a new town has become subject to frequent flooding. Within this
length of road, there are three pipes AB, BC, CD with the outfall at D. The details of the pipes and
the areas they serve are shown in Table. Assuming a time of entry of 2 min, use the Rational
Method to determine which pipe length has insufficient capacity to carry away the 2-year storm for
which the intensity, i (mm h−1) is related to the duration, t(min) by the expression i=825/(t+8).

5. A small separate storm sewer network has the characteristics shown in Fig. below. Use the Rational
Method to determine the capacity required for each pipe in the network. Assume a time of entry of
4 minutes, that the pipe-full velocity in each pipe is 1.5 m/s, and that design rainfall intensities can

be determined from the equation: , where i is intensity (mm/hr) and D is duration of

rainfall (min). Further, assume 100% runoff from impervious areas.
