Winnie Harlow (born

is a Canadian fashion
model, spokesperson,
and activist. She gained
prominence as a
contestant on the
twenty-first cycle of
the U.S. television
series America's Next
Top Model while having
a prominent form of the
skin condition vitiligo.
At age 16, a local Toronto journalist, Shannon Boodram, discovered
HISTORY Chantelle and shared her story in a YouTube video. The video
r e c e i v e d o v e r 7 0 0 k v i e w s , a n d s o o n w e n t v i r a l . W i n n i e ’s m a t u r i t y ,
beauty and message resonated with fans around the world. She
soon she found herself encouraging people all over the world
through her growing social media platforms. With her emerging
success online, the fashion industry slowly began to pay attention.

Despite being rejected by every single modeling agency in her


hometown of Toronto, designers, photographers and runway
directors began to see the uniqueness of the Canadian-Jamaican
beauty. Unrepresented, she was invited to walk in local fashion
shows all over Toronto. Catching the attention of Tyra Banks,
W i n n i e c o m p e t e d i n t h e 2 1 s t c y c l e o f A m e r i c a ’s N e x t T o p M o d e l a n d
later got her big break in the fashion industry from the esteemed
British Photographer Nick Knight. Making her first trip to London,
Winnie shot with Knight who she considers her “Fashion
Godfather” and so started her ascent on the industry with Knight
booking her in her first international fashion campaign soon after.
With a career typified by many firsts, Winnie has championed in
the arrival of alternative forms of beauty for a more diverse
fashion landscape.
Following America's Next Top Model, Harlow
modeled for the Spanish clothing brand
CAREER Desigual and became their official brand
representative.
In September 2014, she walked and closed for
the clothing brand Ashish for their
spring/summer 2015 collection in London
Fashion Week.
She has modeled for fashion magazines such
as i-D and Dazed, and for the fashion website
Showstudio.com.
In 2015, Harlow modeled for the Italian
clothing brand Diesel for its spring/summer
2015 campaign, which was shot by British
fashion photographer Nick Knight

She modeled for the Spanish and Italian


editions of Glamour magazine and was
featured in the August/September 2015 issue
of Complex magazine. She was also featured in
the August 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan. She
was featured on Vogue Italia's website in an
interview and accompanying photo shoot. In
August 2015, Harlow shot the cover of and an
accompanying editorial spread in the
September issue of Ebony magazine. In 2016,
Harlow was featured in a commercial for
Sprite, and was featured in a campaign for
Swarovski.
