THE MCCB - Standard & Superior Series: Application

The MCCB standard and superior series are circuit breakers designed to protect electrical systems from overload and short circuits. They are trip-free, meaning the contacts will open if an overload or short circuit occurs even if the handle is held closed. To prevent single phasing, if one phase overloads or short circuits it will cause all phases to disconnect. The superior series housing is made of BMC material for insulation. Accessories like auxiliary switches, motorized switches, and plug-in kits can be added. The MCCB series meets international standards from IEC, British Standards, and others.

THE MCCB - standard & superior series

THE MCCB standard & superior series

Application
The MCCB Standard and Superior series are suitable for circuit protection in individual
enclosures, switchboards, lighting and power panels as well as motor-control centres. The
MCCB is designed to protect systems against overload and short circuits.

Mechanism
Both the Standard and Superior series are designed to be trip-free.
This applies when the breaker contacts open under overload and
short circuit conditions and even if the breaker handle is held at the
ON position. To eliminate single phasing, should an overload or short
circuit occur on any one phase, a common trip mechanism will
disconnect all phase contacts of a multipole breaker.

Material
The Superior series circuit breakers’ housing is made of BMC
material, which is unbreakable and has a very high dielectric strength,
to ensure the highest level of insulation.

Accessories
To enhance the Superior series, internal and external modules can be fitted onto the breaker.
They are as follows (with ordering codes for reference):

 Shunt release (code : ST)  Undervoltage release  (code : UVT)

 Auxiliary switch (code : AX)  Alarm switch  (code : AL)
 Motorised switch  (code : MT)  rotary handle  (code: RH)
 Plug-in kit  (code : PB)  Auxiliary & alarm switch (code : AX & AL)

International standards
The MCCB standard and superior series conform and meet the requirements of these
international governing bodies :

 IEC 947-2  from the International

Electrotechnical Committee
 BS EN60947-2  from British Standards
 BT/T14048-2  from American Standards

 VDE 0660  from Germany
