Beam Ansys

This document describes a verification test case for analyzing the lateral buckling of a right angle frame using finite element analysis. The test case models a cantilever right angle frame subjected to an in-plane end load. BEAM188 and BEAM189 elements are used to model the frame. Results show that the critical buckling loads predicted by ANSYS using both element types match well with the theoretical target values. Graphs of the load-displacement response and deformed shapes of the buckled frame are also presented.

Test Case
A cantilever right angle frame is subjected to an in-plane fixed end load. The frame is driven to buckling
mode by a perturbation load applied at the free end, normal to the plane of the frame. This perturbation
is removed close to the buckling load. Determine the critical load.
