On the busiest night of the year at one of the hottest restaurants in London, charismatic, commanding head chef Andy Jones (Stephen Graham) balances along a knife's edge as multiple personal and professional crises threaten to destroy everything he's worked for. A surprise visit from a health and safety inspector sets the staff on edge as the overbooked hotspot begins to fill with guests. Jones alternately berates and cajoles his diverse staff, trying his best to diffuse tensions between management and his crew, while catering to the ridiculous demands of customers.

This movie shows you the environment in which the restaurant staff is working with all ups and downs, uncensored. You get to see the drama that’s behind the curtain and believe me it is very real. What I really didn’t like about this movie is the ending, it felt short and the ending felt rushed in a way. But then again I’m not sure what ending I envisioned… But, the fact that the entire film was shot in one continuous take is rather impressive.

It turns out that Boiling Point is the perfect subject matter for the one continuous shot concept. Set in an upscale London restaurant, the camera unflinchingly captures the mayhem of both the front and the back of house over a ninety-minute period. Stress-inducing thanks to both the style and the setting, Boiling Point focuses primarily on Andy (Stephen Graham), a chef whose life is quickly spiraling out of control, and his impact on those he works with. Anyone going into this expecting much of a plot will probably be disappointed – make no mistake, this is a character study of a man watching his life slip through his fingers over the course of an evening. Graham is great in the lead role, as is Vinette Robinson as his exasperated sous-chef, but the real star of the show is the style – agile camerawork, excellent sound, and creative blocking make it a worthy entry in the one-shot sweepstakes.

This movie is fantastic. Certainly not for the faint of heart but you can see the genius in all aspects of this film and oh yeah, it was made in a single shot which is totally sick.

Every role in this movie was well carved out and well portrayed. Many of us have had some type of work experience in a restaurant, and for me, this film was very realistic. In particular, there is a roller coaster of power dynamics involving every character, each in their own way.
