Granulocytes are a type of white blood cell that are formed in the bone marrow via haematopoiesis and are characterized by the presence of granules, or small vesicles, in their cytoplasm. Granulocytes are important components of the immune system and are involved in defending the body against infection and disease. The different types of granulocytes are shown in the image: eosinophils, neutrophils basophil and mast cells.
