If you can't do an exercise, it's okay. Just try the negative or eccentric portion of the move. This allows the body and mind to learn the move so that you can later perform the exercise with greater strength and accuracy. For the push-up, get into a stable plank position and slowly descend the body toward the ground keeping your shoulders, hips, legs, and ankles in one straight line. The descent should take about 3 to 5 seconds. Then push yourself up. Try 1 to 5 reps.
