Writing the first draft is fun. You get to chase plot bunnies through the lollipop forest. Revision can still be fun and creative but it's also the time when we have to start making difficult decisions. If those fun little tangents don't serve your story, they have to go. If they won't delight and entertain your readers, they have to go. I'm not saying it's easy, but these decisions are necessary and that focus will make your book better.b
