 • We used to think a winged scapula was the cause of shoulder issues- research has shown this is generally not a cause/effect relationship and many folks WITH a winged shoulder blade have no pain/dysfunction.
 • The SA originates from the ribs and attaches to the medial border of the scap. Yes, the RIBS- so ya know what else goes into this whole situation? Breath/core and rib cage control (post for another day)
 • People make these movements really complicated- just keep it simple but really focus on feeling that shoulder blade engage and stay where you want it to (swinging up or down your rib cage)

AC JOINT Pain: early/mid-stage rehab!

The bony tip on top of the shoulder where the clavicle meats the acromion is called the AC joint. Pain at the top of the shoulder can feel hard to address.

AC joint injuries (separations, sprains) are among the most common in contact sports (football) but also heavily in cycling or triathlons from a fall onto the shoulder with the arm adducted. Pain here can also come on without a fall too.

This can be painful and while early immobilization can be useful, it’s a slippery slope if it’s kept there TOO long. 

👉🏼Weakness in the muscles that help provide control to this joint can lead to a host of issues. Pain after the acute stage may manifest during shoulder activity overhead or reaching behind, as well as chest wall tightness.
