Developing strong Phonological Awareness skills are essential to becoming a strong reader. We are preparing him for kindergarten by using this activity that he loves! We lay out 3 hula hoops, read cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant), and segment the sounds in the word. He then hops to each hoop while saying the sound. Understanding the terms: beginning, middle, and end is also an important skill to know in kindergarten. I love this activity because it gives us a break from sitting down when we are engaging in our other activities.
