🔥Lower back pain in pregnancy is no fun!! As your center of gravity changes growing your tiny human within, the posterior side of your body can become weak causing lower back pain. . 🤷🏻‍♀️How do you get out of pain? Strengthen the muscles around the area of pain. The upper back muscles and glute muscles become weak causing the lower back to hurt. . 💪🏻Strengthening the upper back muscles can give you relief along with strengthening the glutes muscles to help stabilize the lower back. . ⚖️It’s all about finding balance within the body to stay out of pain. It is a constant balancing act with the skeletal muscular system of the body to keep a pregnant body happy!!

Lower back pain, in particular, is suspected to plague more than half of pregnant women, making it one of the most prevalent concerns for expecting moms. While it usually kicks into gear in the second trimester, it’s not uncommon for it to crop up in the first.

Try these easy tips!

1. Pull hips back to neutral spine. There’s a tendency to throw the hips forward as baby and bump get bigger. This can put a ton of stress on the back. 

2. Avoid rib flare. This can go hand and hand with the low back posture. Pointing your ribs up towards the sky can affect pelvic floor, back pain, and your breathing!

3. Keep Soft knees. Soft knees will help you be able to not lock out into positions that can cause pain and discomfort. This also makes it way easier to keep your body moving and not stiffen up in one position for too long.

Here are a few tips which can help to relieve hip pain in pregnancy!  ✨Ugh.. that annoying outer hip pain is keeping you awake at night!  Easy solution.  Extend your bottom leg. Rest your top leg on a pillow and roll slightly towards your belly.  This will take the weight and pressure off the bone outer hip (the greater trochanter).  This is how we set up in savasana for third trimester folks in prenatal yoga class!  Try it and let me know how it feels!

Cycle through as many times as needed! - rock back breathing - cat cow - standing pelvic tilt  Remember, there are so many ways to address low back pain through movement, but these are just a few of my go-to movements when pain is high and you’re desperate for a little relief!
