There’s a time to tell and a time to show! The trick is knowing when and how to balance it.

When to show:
 • When character emotions or thoughts are the focus
 • You’re introducing a new place characters haven’t been before
 • When you want to emphasize important details (like something that might come into play later on in your story)

When to tell
 • To show passage of time
 • Action scenes, so fast-paced scenes. Showing can slow them down
 • To shorten your writing/get to the point when the scene is already long
 • Details that are insignificant or don’t add to your story my drawing them out
