This is how I prepare for a protective style 🤍

First things first, about every 3 or so months I’ll encourage myself to DIY an inspired protective style whether it’s braids, twists, or locs! It challenges my creative abilities & I’m always so pleased with the outcome so this year I promised myself I’d do more ✨— Of course, there’s an order that must be followed!

📣 Disclaimer: Everyone is different & I always advise getting your ends trimmed by a PROFESSIONAL if you are not experienced at trimming your own. Better safe than sorry, always! However, I’ve been doing this for a while & aim to get my ends trimmed by my stylist twice a year (I’ve fallen short this year which is why when I get a chance, I’ll trim myself lol)

 • I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a trim schedule if your goal is to retail length. Every 3 to 4 months is a great schedule to follow to retain length. If your hair is terribly damaged, start with a hair cut first and then follow up with your trim schedule. Split ends will definitely cause breakage and although hair is growing from your scalp, you will not move past your plateau 💯

How i stretch and trim/ dust my ends. I do this whenever i start noticing split ends. As we know holding on to spit ends can lead to breakage. They can later travel up your hair and break your hair even more. How often do you trim/ dust your ends? Like & Save this for later if you find this useful

Notes

Create four equal sections and then create 3-4 sections within those four sections.

Use index and middle finger to slid hair down with a rat tail comb. Keep those two fingers taunt until your trim away what you need to.

Repeat the process until you’re finished.

Hair should be trimmed 8-12 weeks or on the health of your hair.

Tips to notice hair needs a trim :

Split ends/dry ends.

Hair tangles a lot on wash days, even after hair has been detangled.

Hair is limp and lacking volume.

Hair dosen’t look full from roots to ends when you twist or braid the hair.

Trimming my natural hair at home! I’m trying to make it a habit to trim my ends at least every 6 months. I’ve always hated getting haircuts because I would try to hold on to every bit of length I had! Over the years I’ve learned that getting trims often will actually help with retaining length and seeing growth. Going without trims can cause the breakage to travel up your hair shaft and cause more damage. How often do you trim your hair? Do you do them at home or have it done profession...
