We are going to look at the 4 main functions in their most basic form and represented as a graph. It is important to take note of the form and shape of each of these functions. You need to be able to draw them and identify them.

Task 1

1 Pin
There are 5 characteristics of function that you should know. But in this task we are only going to look at the first two characteristics. We are going to identify these characteristics in each function that we looked at in task 1. Download the PowerPoint and then it is essential to open the PowerPoint in Microsoft 365 PowerPoint. View it in presentation mode. Make use of the links as indicated.

Task 2

1 Pin
After you have already looked at the 2 first characteristics of functions we are now going to look at the remaining 3 characteristics. Download the PowerPoint and then it is essential to open the PowerPoint in Microsoft 365 PowerPoint. View it in presentation mode. Make use of the links as indicated. Do not forget to fill in the form quiz as well. The quiz is not a formal assessment. It is just for evaluation purposes.

Task 3

1 Pin
We will now investigate what happens to the functions that we already looked at if we add or subtract a value or multiply the function with some value or when both of these instances happen simultaneously. Follow the link to a document has all the videos you need to watch. Take note on how each graph and function changes.
After you have watched all the videos, work through Siyavula's Interpretation of graphs. It give step by step explanation on how to interpret each graph. Do all the examples EXCEPT example 25. After you are comfortable with the examples you can continue to the Textbook excercises 6.7. You can check your answers as well. Happy learning!

Task 4

2 Pins
We looked at the main type of functions and their characteristics in their standard form. Then we shifted and scales these functions. We are now integrating our knowledge and see if we can still identify the characteristics for graphs that look different. Watch the video and take notes.
First watch the video! This is for those that would like to access the slides, or even make their own notes on the slides as I explain or showed the graphs that was discussed in the video but was not in the slides. The slides is also a nice summary to refer back to for all the characteristics for functions in general.
View this summary of all the functions. This is an ideal cheat sheet to keep close.
