This Grade II*-listed church was designed in 1835 by George Phillips Manners (1789 –1866), Bath's City Architect from 1823 to 1862. It is the fourth church to have stood on this spot, just outside the former city walls, where it dominates Bath's skyline. The present building replaced a much smaller classical church of 1741-43 by John Harvey.
