Elmo waited for Oscar to come back to his can so he can get his blanket till the point that he gets impatient enough to barge into Oscar’s can. If he waited for Oscar until he came back his can we would’ve no story. If he came out of Oscar’s can with his blanket and not be sucked down to Grouchland well once again we would have no story.
