Multijurisdictional Practice (MJP) Program

Out-of-state attorneys who are licensed and in good standing in another U.S. jurisdiction may apply to the Multijurisdictional Practice Program (MJP) to practice law in a limited capacity in California.

You may apply to become one of the following types of MJP attorneys:

• Registered Servicemember Attorney and Registered Servicemember Spouse Attorney (RSSA): If you are approved as an RSSA, you may practice law in California and engage in all forms of legal practice that are permissible for a licensee of the State Bar of California, including pro bono legal services.
• Registered Legal Aid Attorney (RLAA): If you are approved as an RLAA, you may practice law in California while working at an eligible legal aid organization on behalf of its clients and may engage, under supervision, in all forms of legal practice that are permissible for a licensee of the State Bar of California.
• Registered In-House Counsel (RIHC): If you are approved as an RIHC, you may provide legal services in California exclusively for your qualified employer.
