We're upgrading our historical data systems to improve their security, stability and resilience. During the upgrade some data will not be available, we aim to restore full access by mid-2026.
Charges for historical data
The Bureau charges for data that is not available for free on our website. This is to recover costs, in line with the Australian Government Cost Recovery Policy
All charges listed below are for the 2025/2026 financial year and are GST inclusive.
Payment
- We issue a tax invoice with your data licence agreement
- The invoice confirms your data request and the amount due
- Payment means the user accepts the Data Licence Agreement
- Pay online with a credit card or BPAY
- If you require other payment methods, please email us
- Online payments may take up to 72 hours to reach us – longer during weekends and public holidays
- We process data after receiving full payment.
Processing times
Standard data requests are generally processed within 5 working days
Large or complex data requests take longer – see below.
Category 1 and 2 requests
Standard data requests are generally processed within 5 working days of receipt of payment, although processing may take longer during periods of high demand (see Data Charges for details).
Urgent requests with priority processing
Priority processing may be available for an extra fee. We cannot guarantee that this service will be available.
Priority fees for requests valued at:
- $400 or less – $243 fee
- more than $400 – 40% of invoice total
Priority requests will be processed as soon as possible after payment has been received.
Certified copy (Standard)
Certified copies of data can be used as a legal document or evidence in a court proceeding and are usually supplied within 10 working days after payment has been received.
Certified copy (Priority)
Urgent certified copies are usually supplied on an agreed-upon date, if available.
Changes to your request
At times we may need to update your tax invoice details. This may happen if datasets have missing or invalid data, we will contact you before making any changes to your request.
Delivery
Small data files are sent as email attachments.
Larger files are sent by either:
- file transfer protocol (FTP)
- on a portable data storage device by the mail within Australia, and there is an extra fee for this service.

We can provide you with a certified copy of the data if you need to submit it as evidence in court.
You can request meteorological observational data (daily, three-hourly, half-hourly, and 1-minute data) for a set period, up to 25 pages.
Additional pages
For each block of 10 pages, an extra charge will apply – up to a maximum of 105 pages in total.

Copies of forecasts and warnings stored in our archives can be supplied in text format.
