Chappell Roan brought her signature daring style to the 2026 Grammys in Los Angeles on Sunday with a sheer burgundy Mugler dress recalling a spring 1998 look by the house.
A standout element of the dress design was the use of nipple piercings; the delicate fabric draped loosely across the torso, hanging from silver rings. The dress also featured a low back and a long train. The revealing design allowed a henna design and more body art to be seen. For part of her time on the carpet, “The Subway” singer, nominated for two awards for the song, wore a matching sheer cape as well. Her cascading curls matched her dress, and her accessories included a choker, dangling earrings, and sandals with a chain-link strap.
The ultra skin-baring dress was first seen decades ago in Thierry Mugler’s spring 1998 couture show, worn by Erica Vanbriel in black on the runway. The archival style was referenced in the spring 2026 collection by new creative director Miguel Castro Freitas with a star-patterned iteration.
