CloudKit is an integrated OS X and iOS API that functions as a backend as a service (BaaS).[1] According to Apple, CloudKit is the framework that powers iCloud on iOS, OS X and iCloud on the web.[2]
Application developers can use CloudKit to integrate access to Apple’s iCloud servers. It provides authentication (a private and public database) and structured asset storage services for application developers.[3] The API provides the foundation for both iCloud Drive and iCloud Photo Library and is supported on both OS X and iOS devices.[4]
